Day: 143
Turtle day
By DuskieeDawnSlow and steady wins the race.
Sure, turtles and tortoises are slow but there's a lot more to them than that. For example, turtles are excellent swimmers.
On this day, we bring attention to our slow friends. We share more knowledge about them and learn to respect them.
Did you know that turtles have been here since the time of dinosaurs, that's 200 million years ago!
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SAVE THE TURTLES
1) Never buy turtles from pet stores as they increase the demand from the wild.
2) Never remove a turtle from the wild unless they're sick or injured.
3) Report the sale of turtles less than 4 inches as it is illegal in the US.
4) Report the cruelty or illegal sales of turtles and tortoises to your local animal control shelter.
What's the funniest assumption you've made about a turtle?
I always thought once they grow old, they'll be too big for their shell and eventually grow out of it. Turns out their shell grows along with them too.
