International Workers day originally started when people protested to have an 8 hour work day. It was a constant struggle for the working class to gain 8 hour work day since working conditions were severe. They worked 10 to 16 hours in unsafe situations.
International Workers day is also known as May Day. We celebrate today to show respect and honor for the lives that have been lost. Over 40,000 workers went on strike and a couple have been shot. International Workers Day was first recognized as an annual event in 1891.
