Dipper and Mabel watched the medallion fall. It exploded into a shower of sparks with impact upon the hard ground.
The twins looked at one another and raced back through the shack and out the front door. All that remained of the medallion was a blackened patch of grass in the shape of a triangle.
"Dipper I'm sorry." Mabel said.
"No it's my fault." Dipper said, hanging his head. "I shouldn't have tackled you on the roof. What if I had knocked you off and hadn't caught you?"
"Dipper don't say that! I'm perfectly ok so don't worry about it."
The two twins once again turned their attention to the ground.
"Who would've guessed it'd blow up though?" Mabel said.
"Yeah. I would've liked to learn what it did but I guess I can't do that anymore." Dipper replied.
"Kids! What are you doing outside?" Stan called from the house.
"C'mon let's get to bed." Mabel said, pulling her brother into the house.
As the door shut behind them, the triangle patch began to glow gold, and it retook the shape of the medallion. The blacked grass was gone and the medallion levitated up to Dipper and Mabel's window. It then floated inside and tucked itself neatly under Dipper's pillow, just as the twins entered their bedroom.
The next morning Dipper awoke to the whirring sound of a mixer. Rubbing his sleepy eyes, Dipper made his way downstairs to the kitchen where Mabel was making muffins and a fresh mixture of Mabel Juice. She was covered in flour and sugar; a piece of butter stuck to the side of her cheek.
"Hi Dipper! Grunkle Stan isn't awake yet so I thought I'd make breakfast!" Mabel said joyfully.
Dipper took a seat at the table and poured himself a glass of orange juice, not wanting anything to do with the plastic dinosaurs that were bound to be in the Mabel Juice.
"Mabel, Stan's going to kill you if he sees this mess. Or worse, make me clean it up." Dipper pointed out.
"Oh don't worry Dipper; I'll clean everything." Mabel said confidently.
Mabel pulled a tray of muffins from the oven. After they cooled a while, she handed one to Dipper and took a bite out of one herself.
"So you never told me what happened between you and Wendy last night." Mabel said casually, still chewing her muffin.
Dipper, completely surprised by the question, choked on the muffin in his mouth and coughed for a good minute or so.
"Do we really have to discuss this?" He asked.
"YES!"
"Fine. Last night I-"
"Hey kids!" Stan said, walking into the room and completely interupting Dipper.
Dipper breathed a sigh of relief and Mabel glared at him.
"I'm going to ignore this. Just make sure it gets cleaned up." Stan said.
Mabel laughed. Stan looked at Mabel skeptically.
"I'll clean it up." She promised.
Stan shrugged, took a muffin, and went into the living room, saying nothing more on the subject.
"Anyway, where were we?" Mabel said, looking at Dipper. "I believe you were telling me what you did with We-"
"Hey dudes!" Soos said, peeking his head into the kitchen.
"Again!" Mabel hissed under her breath.
"You dudes wanna help me out in the gift shop today?" Soos asked.
"You mean, around Wendy and stuff?" Dipper asked.
"Well she does work there too..." Soos replied.
"Yeah ok I'll do it." Dipper said.
Mabel threw a look of confusion in Dipper's direction. His mouth was in a smile; no doubt was showing on his face.
"Yeah I guess I'll come to." Mabel answered hesitantly.
"Alrighty then. I'll see you dudes out in the gift shop soon." Soos said, grabbing one of Mabel's muffins and then walking out.
Dipper jumped up from the table and dashed back up to the attic. Mabel followed.
"Dipper! Where are you going?" Mabel said.
Dipper was in their bedroom. He had already gotten changed and was now fixing his hat neatly atop his head.
"Dipper?"
"Yeah?"
"You seem in a much better mood regarding Wendy."
"I just need to sort something out." He said, leaving Mabel in the room alone.
Dipper soon found himself in the Mystery Shack gift shop. Wendy was sitting behind the counter reading a magazine, as usual. Dipper took a deep breath and walked over to her.
"Hey Wendy!" He said, putting a smile on his lips.
"Hey man! What's up?" She said, smiling back at him.
"Oh nothing really."
Just then Wendy's phone buzzed. She picked it up and looked at the screen. She raised an eye brow and frowned.
"Robbie just leave me alone." She said with a roll of her eyes.
Dipper laughed nervously.
"Hey listen... Wendy, I'm really sorry about..." Dipper began.
"Don't worry about it man. I heard you through your window last night."
"Wait, what?"
"Yeah. Your window was open and I heard you talking to Mabel just as I was leaving. I believe you. I've seen some of this crazy stuff like that shape shifter. We're cool man." She said with a smile.
"Wow... Thanks Wendy."
"No problem Dipper." Wendy said, punching his arm playfully.
The two of them smiled and laughed, just as Mabel walked in. Mabel was unbelievably surprised to find her brother, who could barely talk about Wendy last night, talking and laughing with her so casually.
"Hey guys! What'd I miss?" She asked.
"Nothing important." Wendy said, winking at Dipper and he smiled.
