Watching as the large hunk of metal come crashing down, my body tensed, a moment of Deja vu occurring as flashes of the day my parents went missing coming into mind. As, a dark shadow cast over me, I was snapped back into my senses enough to start my quirk, only for the large shrapnel to weigh me down, a sharp pain rupturing through my head.
Everything was muffled...
"She isn't coming out!"
I'm scared...
"Y/n!"
This can't be happening... not again.
"Come on Y/n don't give up!"
Hearing my brothers faint voice, I opened my eyes, fire all around my form the metal around me melting away quickly. Realizing where I was, I shook off the nostalgic feeling in my head, I used it down, blasting the dirt under me with flames, shooting me out of the hunk of metal a projecting me even further ahead than attended.
Fully coming back to earth both physically and mentally, I could hear the crowd of people shouting all cheering for their respected competitor.
As my feet came in contact with the ground I refocused myself at the race at hand. A large cavern ahead of me, a line of rope separating each hunk of floating land.
Blasting over the entire obstacle with ease, I noticed I had gained a few places up in the race, leaving me in seventh place. Making contact with the ground, I got to the final obstacle. Competition being blasted back by colored, bomb like explosives.
I sighed, disappointed that I could easily get passed this obstacle like every previous one before, by simply flying over the obstacle itself and avoiding it completely. Doing the process once more, I boosted myself into fifth place, earning myself in the top five as I ran through the end, crossing the finish line sloppily, and feeling defeated.
Sighing heavily, I stumbled to a stop the race replaying in my mind trying to rack up different ways I could have gone about each obstacle. My mind raced back a forthcoming up with new and better ideas until it came to stop. The memory of the first obstacle playing in flashes.
I shouldn't have acted that way. My fire had spread out more than it should have.
Looking down at my left hand, I noticed how scuffed and dirtied it looked, the amount of dust flying around the arena getting into every nook or cranny it can find.
"What did I do wrong?" I wondered, taking my opposite hand and rubbing my palm, smearing the dirt and leaving a semi-clean streak.
My attention once again faltered as I heard Gina's voice and screaming Katsuki.
"IM GONNA KILL HIM!"
"You got a good placing, don't be a big cry baby about it!" Watching as Gina smacked the back of Bakugou's head, my eyes caught another disappointed top competitor.
Walking over to the said boy, I have a soft laugh catching his attention.
"Neat tricks Todoroki. That one you did with the first obstacle caught me off my guard ther-"
"You should have paid attention then. I did give everyone a fair warning," His cold and harsh tone stabbed through my chest. I've never heard him sound so distrusting, not even back in the break room.
"Uh, heh yeah! Guess I should-" My sentence was cut short at the peppermint boy shoved passed me, his shoulder bumping harshly into mine.
Listening to his footsteps as they grew quiet, I stood alone once more, my mind trying and begging myself to figure out what I had done to make Todoroki give me the cold shoulder.
"Ugh, boys are so uptight, am I right?" Looking over my shoulder I noticed Gina was now standing by my side, her signature smile plastered on her lips but was soon replaced with a concerned furrow of her eyebrows. "Hey, what's up with you?"
Waving her comment off I laughed nervously, "Just wondering what I could have done differently to get a higher ranking is all. How about you? You've been acting off ever since this morning?"
"Oh, me? um," I watched as Gina's calm demeanor took a complete 180 as her hands found their way to one another as the wrapped around each other in a nervous habit. "Just nerves about all of...this?" She chuckled, her hands pinching her fingers turning them into a slight blue color.
"You say that," I sigh, pointing to her wringing hands, "But then your body shows that your lying,"
Gina let out a surprised squeak throwing her hands behind her back, her nervous laugh shooting through her cat-like smile.
Before I could question any further Midnight had already introduced the next competition: Calvary Battle.
"You will all be given Fifteen minutes to form teams up to five members!" With that being said all forty-two students who had moved on in the competition spread out, some forming groups rather quickly.
"Um, well do you wanna be-" Turning back to Gina my sentence was cut short as Gina walked off with a purple haired boy. Her stance in a slouched motion. "Guess not then,"
Standing there watching as Gina went with the rather tall boy made my mind turn for the worse as suddenly my anxiety grew with fear.
'Holy crap I'm the new kid! No one is gonna want to team up with me?! They barely know what my quirk is!'
"L/n! Wanna join our team?" Looking back behind me, I came face to...uh chest with Yaoyorozu. The rather tall Girl had a bright smile on her face as she gestured to the three boys behind her: Kaminari, Iida, and Todoroki.
"Uhm," My mind, still in partial anxiety mode, immediately went back to Todoroki and I's Encounter just moments ago. Looking back to Yaoyorozu, my mind went to a bit more at ease. "I'll gladly join!" Yaoyorozu gave me a happy smile, seemingly brighter than the last one. As she leads me to the completed group, my eyes wandered to the one boy in question. His bright blue and dull grey eyes squinted in determined focus that seemed to pull me into a trance.
"Sweet! Now we have a full group!" Kaminari spoke, seeing Yaoyorozu and I walk up to the group. "It will be so much easier to carry Todoroki now!"
As the electric boi laughed to himself I looked back to those eyes, only to see them already staring right back at me, a soft yet harsh glare embedded in them. There intensity making me shrink under their sour gaze.
'What did I do to make Todoroki Shoto loathe me so much?'
