The roars from the bleachers shook the whole arena, and I looked around.

The yells from the crowd always got adrenaline pumping through my body, and the usual thrills ran through my body.

"Let's go, girls. Remember, we cannot lose. We'll show them that girls are better than they think. Fighting!" I yelled, and our bench erupted in shouts.

"Fighting!"

"Let's get on and run the show!"

Breaking into a sprint, we ran onto the basketball, and began our warm ups.

While everyone did their stretching, I grabbed a ball and began shooting hoops.

Swish.

Swish.

Swish

So far, so good.

I was about to release the ball, but a sudden voice caught me by surprise.

Clunk.

The ball hit the rim and slammed against the glass board, before it fell to the ground.

"Just what the hell were you thinking, Wu?" I turned around to face the tall guy standing behind me.

He gave me his usual smirk. "Nothing," he drawled, winking lazily at me. I scowled and flung the ball at him, but he caught it easily with one hand.

"You can take your little team home; you're going to lose anyway," he hissed, his expression turning dark suddenly. His eyebrows were drawn even closer, and his mouth was pursed up. He leaned in closer, and I felt his savage breath on my face.

I felt a jolt of fear run in my stomach, but I tried to hide the fact. I gave him a biggest shove I could with all the strength I could muster.

"G-go away. I promise you that you won't have an easy time, Wu."

He bent down and placed his mouth beside me ear. "Can you even put up a fight? I doubt so," he whispered, before he stood up. "Well boys, let's get warmed up!"

"Have fun, ______."

I watched as he grabbed a ball and began sinking hoops. His shots were pitch perfect, and I suddenly felt small. Could we really beat him?

Being the reigning national champions in the male and female categories, our school had decided that our teams should play together for everyone to watch.

Kris was the boy's captain-tall, athletic with devilish good looks. He was the power of the team-they had never lost a game when he was leading. Just the mention of his name left our rivals shaking in fear-he was that good.

And I was the girl's captain. Our teams never had a good relationship, because Kris and I were enemies. I did not like his attitude, nor his conceit.

Today, I told myself, we will win this game.

"Welcome to the Riverdean basketball showdown! The match will start in five minutes, so let's give the teams a cheer before they start!"

The crowds sprang to life, their cheers tearing through the air. I saw my coach sitting in the front seat, and he nodded at me.

When the referee blew his game, the war began.

I caught the ball and threw it to my teammate, before she threw it in the hoop.
