The One That Got Away

Chapter 44: Four Years Later

Four long years have been pass and I'm still trying to figure out what just happened.

Four years of emptyness and regrets.

Four years of what ifs and what could have beens.

I am here at my room, sipping a cold coffee that sits in there for hours now looking into the dripping rains in the windows.

I let out a heavy sigh.

"Daddy! Daddy!" I heard a hurried knock on the door.

"Come in." I replied. I heard the squek open door.

"Daddy can I bring my bunny?" I heard the little girl and I cant help but to giggle.

"What? Whats so funny dad?" Padabog naman nitong sagot.

I carried her and took her to the full sized mirror just beside my bed. "Darling look at your hair! It was like you just got out from bed. So pretty pa naman your dress oh!"

She giggled too. "Oh no! I'm sorry Daddy! I messed up."

I kissed her cheeks and put her down. "Its okay sweetheart, Daddy will fix it for you."

I took the comb and did her hair. Namaster ko na din yata ang pag bebraid sa kanya. I used to watch youtube tutorials pa nga para lang maperfect ko yung braid niya.

"Kung andito lang sana si Shin.... Pero kung nasaan man siya ngayon, sana masaya na siya. Kasi kami, masaya na kami ng mga bata."

"All done! Wear your shoes na ha. And call kuya!"

She immediately kissed my lips and said, "thank you dada! Lablab!"

I just smiled and watched her as she run to the door.

I wear my coat and put on a perfume. And went out to meet my kids.

I found Hunter tying her sister's shoes at the end of the staircase.

My heart melt. These two reminds me that life, somehow is exceptionally beautiful anyway.

"Ready?" I ask and they just nooded.

I love how Hunter to be the most intelligent kid I know at his age who loves to become an astronaut and a scientist at the same time and Reese is a fighter as well, but super malambing to daddy and to Hunter. They never fight. Although they are twins, Hunter became a responsible big brother to Reese. And I can't thank God enough for that.

I put the kids at their car seat and drive off immediately. I drop off to a flowershop in Dangwa to picked up the flowers I ordered a while ago. Thank God the rain stopped.

A few more minutes and we reached our destination. I unbuckle the kids and went out of the car carrying the bouquet I just bought.

I hold Reese on her left hand and Hunter holds her on her right. The loud upbeat music welcomed us. I saw some from the industries and saw some of the most influencial bussiness man in the country with wine in their hands.

I looked around and found myself sitting infront and my kids on my side.

This was an awarding event for global contributors to Philippine's Growing Economy.

The program started and they presented the awardees. Laughters, chitchats and drinks continued after the party. And finally I greet her now.

"Hi babe! Congratulations!" I greeted her and kissed her cheeks. "Sorry I had to bring the kids, wala kasing magbabantay sa bahay, ay eto nga pala. Flowers for you!" Inabot ko ang bulaklak sa kanya.

"Its okay babe. Thank you! These are beautiful!" She said and kissed me on my lips.

"Eww" I heared a tiny voice from Reese. Nagkatinginan naman kami.

I saw how Hunter scolded Reese with his eyes. Reese never liked Kat, but Hunter is now trying to understand everything.

Kat just smiled. "Its okay. Have you guys eat dinner already? What Reese wants to eat? Pizza? You want Pizza?" Kat facing the kids and trying to win their attention.

"Not healthy, Tita. Can we just go somewhere else?" Hunter said.

"Ofcourse love, anywhere you want." She said.

"Okay. Come on Reese." Hunter took her sister's hand and walked immediately wanting to get out since the minute they were here.

Kat holds my hand and followed the kids.
