chapter 6- sweet lullaby

Tyler and I spent almost the entire night on the phone talking about ourselves. Hearing him talk about the things he's passionate about is so wholesome and amazing. Tyler is amazing. I never dress up for a guy, and today is not going to be the day where I start. But I am gonna do my makeup because I look dead inside. What 4 hours of sleep does to a mf. I blame it on the butterflies in my stomach. I blame Tyler.

I'm wearing a floral black tank top, denim skirt, and my black high top converse. I'm also rocking my butterfly necklace. I think I look pretty cool.

I purposely walked into class a minute before the bell to look mysterious. It worked because Tyler had his eyes on me. He also complimented my outfit. I love myself.

"Shit, my pencil is dull." I mumble.
"I can sharpen it for you." Tyler whispers in my ear. I give it to him and he gets up from his seat.
"I like your tank top." Mary says to me.
"Thank you! I love your outfit, girl!"
"Thanks."
Mary is wearing a denim jacket with cheetah print hearts on the cuffs, a black baby tee with an embroidered white cat in the middle, dark blue denim mini skirt, and black docs. Such a classic 90s look.

"Where did you get your tank?" She asks.
"I'm not sure, my brother gave it to me for my birthday."
"How old is your brother?"
"He's 18."
"Ohhh, so he's a senior."
"Yup. His name is Darry."
"Is he going to college?"
"He's thinking of applying to some schools but to be honest I have no idea what his plan is."
"He should apply to some scholarships."
"He's got one already actually. But yeah, he'll probably look into them. He's really focused on his studies and shit."
"I bet your parents are really proud."

My smiles fades away. "Yeah um, they don't really know anything about our school lives."
"That's ok. Lots of parents don't pay attention."
"Mhm. Do you have any siblings?"
"Nope, I'm an only child. My parents also know nothing about my grades which is a relief." Mary laughs.
"That's honestly the best. You can fail without them knowing!"
"Do your parents know when you fail?"
"Ah, no they don't. I don't even live with them so I can fail all I want."
"Oh, do you live with a relative?"
"I live with my brother. What is taking Tyler so long?" I turn to the back of the classroom. He's talking to the teacher.
"Is it hard?"
I turn back around. "Is it hard what?"
"Is it hard just having him as like a parent figure?"
"Sometimes it gets frustrating because obviously I'm a girl and he doesn't get it like a mother would, but for the most part no, not really."
"So when you got your period who helped you-"
"Um, that is a very personal question that I don't feel comfortable answering."
"Oh, ahah, I'm sorry."
"You're good."
"What about on Mother's Day and Father's Day?"
"Just a regular day to us."
"How do you really feel not having a mom or a dad?"
"Why are you asking me all these personal questions?"
"I'm just curious."
"But they're really personal and uncomfortable.
"I just want to know how it feels."
"I don't have to answer your question, I'm not your interviewee. Even if I answer your dumb questions you still wouldn't get it.
"You're right, I'm sorry."
"Here is your pencil, madam." Tyler puts it on my desk.
"What the fuck did you do to it," I laugh, "it's so short.
"Yeahhh about that...it kept on breaking. But hey, short kings for the win! Charlie Chaplin was short and he was one hot guy."
Mary lets out a short laugh. She crosses her legs, revealing a bruise on her knee. Time to ask the interviewer extremely personal and invasive questions.
"Ahah, I didn't know I was a comedian." Tyler says.
"From the looks of it you can be the modern version of Charlie Chaplin." Mary responds.
"Are you calling me hot?"
"I'm calling you funny, but I'll admit that you're kinda hot."
"You can be Charlie Chaplin too."
"I rather be Audrey Hepburn."
"That can work. Audrey Hepburn was gorgeous. She's got a nice smile like you."
"Tyler, I don't think my mouth is a mirror."
"And my words aren't lies."
