Start over

Chapter 32

"Hey buddy" I say answering the call. "Hey Choey! I've missed you" Lucas says with so much happiness. I wish I could be that happy. "I've missed you too" I say almost letting a tear escape. I'm glad he can't see me. "Guess what" he says I respond with "what". "I went to Dylan's party and it was so much fun. His dad got a race car driver to drive us in his car. It was so cool" he says finishing his excitement rant. "That's awesome buddy. I'm glad you had fun" I say sitting down at Jackson's desk. "Is your friend Ryder there? I want to tell him about the race car." He says and my heart sinks. I sigh "sorry buddy Ryder is out doing something right now. I'll have him call you another time though." I say hoping he'll understand. "Promise?" He asks which makes me giggle and I shed a couple tears. "I promise" .

"Bye buddy" then I hang up. I was on the phone with Lucas for 10 minutes and I wish I could be as happy as that little boy. I lay my head in my hands and bring my knees to my chest. I let out a couple sobs then I hear someone clear their throat. I look up and see Jackson "how long have you been there?" I ask hoping it wasn't long. "Since "hey buddy" I think" he says walking towards me. I let out a sigh and go back to my original position. "They all hate me don't they?" I find myself asking while looking up at Jackson who is trying to comfort me. He looks shocked and shakes his head "We could never hate you. We just don't want to see you get hurt but I understand your mindset." He says rubbing my back. "Does Ryder hate me?" I ask without even thinking about what I'm asking. "I don't think so. You both said things you didn't mean" he says pulling me into a hug when more tears start rolling down my face.I pull away from Jackson and clean myself up a bit. "I need to end this and I'm sorry about how it has to be done but we can't turn back now" I say looking at him. "I'll have your back thick and thin" he says smiling at me while he throws an arm around my shoulders while he leads me out the room.

We walk back in the room to see everyone has concern looks except one person. Ryder has an unreadable expression. "Look I'm sorry for being crazy today. I just need this to end. I don't want to live a life of fear and I'm sorry I called him without talking to you guys but it's too late to turn back but we can make this work" I say looking at everyone. They all look shocked except Ryder of course. Tony walks up to me and looks at me as if analyzing me. "What did you do to calm her down?" He asks Jackson. Jackson shrugs and says "I didn't". They all look confused except Ryder. "It was Lucas right?" Ryder says while looking at me. I nod "He always had a way of making you happy even with just the mention of his name" he says smiling at me and for the first time in a while I find myself smiling. "Are you guys up to help still?" I ask. Everyone looks at each other than looks back at me and nods. This is going to work.

"Okay everyone is going to have a weapon on them at all times. No excuses" I say looking at everyone. "Tony and Ryder you are going to pay close attention to me and Brody but don't make it to obvious. Stay back a few feet" I say looking at them and they nod. "Jackson do you still have that small microphone?" I ask. "Yeah why?" He asks confused. "We are going to wire me up so Tony and Ryder can hear our conversation in case something goes wrong since they'll be closest. Then if something does go wrong you'll call the others. Understood?" I ask making sure they get the point. They all nod.

"What about Tati and Emily?" Tony asks. I turn and look at him and Keith is paying attention now too. "They are safe. Trust me" I say looking them both in the eyes. "Where are they though?" Keith asks. "If I tell you, I'd have to kill you" I say giving them a serious look. They both look at each other and nod.

"It's time to get some sleep now" I say and everyone piles out of the warehouse except Tony,Jackson, and Ryder. Tony walks towards me and hugs me "If he tells you anything you call me immediately understood?" I say to him. He nods and walks out the warehouse. Then Jackson comes over and tackles me while I'm not paying attention. "Get off me you big oaf!" I say trying to get him off while he is just tightening his grip. "I love you,Chloe and I'll never let you go" he says. I laugh at him when he finally let's go and we both stand up. "I love you too" I say giving him a hug. He kisses my head and walks out and now I'm just left with Ryder. He walks over in an awkward manner. "I'm sorry" we both say in unison. I laugh while he chuckles. "Here I'll go first. I'm sorry for what I said I didn't mean it I just got mad at you" I say scratching the back of my neck. "I'm sorry too. I shouldn't of said what I said I just don't want to see you get hurt" he says and I smile at him. I hug him which surprises him at first but then he hugs back. We stay like this for a minute then I pull away. "You ready to go?" He asks and I nod. He grabs my hand and we head out. Hopefully tomorrow we can end this horrible situation.
