Chapter 33

I woke up the next morning at 6:30 am. Brody is coming to pick me up at 9. So I jump in the shower and get ready. I get dressed but before I slide my shirt on I remember I need the mic. I wire myself up and then slide my shirt on. I finish getting ready. I look at the clock and it says 7:46am. I walk over to Ryder's room and knock and I get no answer so I walk in. I see him peacefully sleeping. Aww! Time to wake him up. I grab a pillow and smash it into his face. He groans and opens one eye to look at me. I smile innocently at him "Get up! You have to help me make sure the mic works" I say handing him a cup of coffee I made him and walk out.

10 minutes later Ryder walks out fully dressed. He's wearing a basic white T-shirt, jeans and he has on a leather jacket to finish the look. "Take a picture it will last longer" he says when he notices me staring. I roll my eyes and ignore his comment. "You have your ear bud?" I ask and he responds with a nod. I turn on the mic and talk into and wait to see if Ryder can hear me. I look at him and he nods. "Good now you have to leave soon. You have to be there by 8:30" I say reminding him. "Okay I guess I should head out then" he walks towards me and gives me a tight hug. "Be careful please" He says looking down at me. "I promise" I say giving him a kiss on the cheek.

It's almost 9. I'm just waiting for Brody to show up. Everyone else called me and said they are ready. I hear a knock on the door and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. I walk to the door and am about to open the door when I remember to turn on my mic. I turn it on then open the door to be greeted by a smirking Brody. "Hi sweetheart" he says pulling me into a hug. "Hey Handsome. You ready?" I ask. He nods and we head on our way. The drive is silent. We sit in silence just stealing glances at each other. Then we get to the place and he turns to me and smiles. "Ready, Cupcake?" He asks while smirking. I look at him with sadness at the name then remember the plan "yes I am" then we both jump out the car.

As soon as we walk in the building I notice Ryder and Tony. I pretend not to see them not to start suspicion. "Let's go find my cousin" I say grabbing his hand and dragging him to find Jackson. I see him walking around with Cole looking for me. I wolf whistle him and his attention turns towards me. He walks over with a big smile then crushes me in a hug "Hey lil cuz" he says. I hug him backs then pull away "Hey Jackson. This is my friend Brody" I say introducing Jackson to the devil. "Nice to meet you" they both say. "Are you ready to make your big announcement?" I ask Jackson making sure Brody is listening. "I guess so I'm kinda nervous. What if the boys don't like my idea" he says acting insecure. Brody notices his insecurity and smirks but quickly stops but too late I saw it. "They'll love it I promise" I say calming down Jackson. "Okay thanks. Go enjoy yourself now" he says and shoos us away.

"So tell me about yourself" I find myself asking so that I can keep his attention so he can't question anything. "Umm what do you want to know?" He asks. "What do you do for work?" I ask while dragging him to sit down on a bench with me. "I'm the manger of this club. It's not that important" he says making up a horrible lie. "What about you what do you do for work?" He ask eyeing me suspiciously. "I'm currently unemployed but I'm going to be attending school soon" I say kicking my feet a little. "What do you want to do with your life?" He asks. I'm shocked for a second before recovering "Umm well I want to be a social worker maybe or something that I can help people who weren't as fortunate as others. I just want to help people I guess" I say looking down and playing with my fingers. This is getting intense. Before I can say anything else he grabs my hand and squeezes it "That's beautiful. You really are a good person" he says and starts leaning in and I panic. Do I kiss him? I can't blow my cover so I guess I have to. Before we reach each other we hear a horn go off. I look and see Jackson on stage. I mentally thank the universe for saving me from kissing that. "Come on. Jackson is about to do his speech" I say pulling him up with me.

We make it to the front of the stage. While Brody is busy watching Jackson's every move I see Ryder and Tony and they both mouth 'are you okay' I nod my head and turn back to Brody. He grabs my hand again and has this look in his eyes that scares me. That's when I realize there are people here I don't recognize. I look around. This is it. Game time.
