Chapter 35

"What the fuck Kyle?" I say staring at someone I thought I could trust. I feel tears brim my eyes but don't dare let them fall. He sighs and kneels down to be at my level "I'm sorry but I didn't have a choice." He says looking at me with sympathy. "You always have a choice. You always choose your friends and family. I thought we were friends" I say glaring at him. "I know but I can't go against family" he says looking down. "Wait? What do you mean? I've met your family and Kaleb and Martin aren't part of it" I say confused. "You've met my mom and step family. Martin is my actual dad and Kaleb is my step-brother" he says looking ashamed. "You don't have to do this. You know that right? I'll help you if that's what you want." I say trying to help the sweet kid I once knew. "You can't help me. This is what life had in store for me but I just wanted you to know I'm sorry you had to be involved" he says and starts walking back to the door. "Kyle!" I continue to call him but he ignores me. This is just getting harder and harder.

RYDER'S POV (this is right after the call with Tony)

"Chloe? CHLOE?!?" I hear Tony scream through the phone. He throws his phone down and starts running out the building and I follow. We get to the front of the building and look around but don't see them anywhere. Where is she? No this can't be happening. I look down and see her phone. "Tony!" I call he runs towards me and we both run inside to only to see the gang. All the extra people are gone. "She's gone" I say once we make it to the gang. They all go wide eyed and the girls start crying. Cole and Keith comfort them. "What do you mean she is gone? You guys were supposed to watch her?" Jackson asks with anger. "She ran out with him when she noticed all the extra people and we tried to follow but the guys wouldn't move." I say trying to explain. He starts pacing. I look at Tony to see him thinking hard. I ask the question that keeps running through my mind. "Who's Martin?" I ask him and he tenses up. "The old gang leader" he says. I tense up then. "Where did that come from?" Joey asks. "Brody isn't his real name apparently it's Kaleb. I don't know her history with him but all she said was that he was Martin's son" Tony explains.

We have been trying to figure out where she was taken for an hour now. Then Jackson got a call. He answered "Who the fuck is this?" I hear Jackson say. "Idiot. It's your cousin" I hear Chloe say and I jump next to him to hear. He puts it on speaker for us to both hear. "Chloe?!? Where are you?!" He asks. "I couldn't tell you but I bet Kaleb can. Can't you buddy" I hear her say with sarcasm. "I could but where is the fun in that" Kaleb say and I clench my fists. "I swear to god you motherfucker where is she" Jackson says and I've never seen him this angry. "We'll tell you when you give up the gang" Kaleb says. Before Jackson can respond she screams "Jackson I swear to god don't you dare do it. Not over this. I'll be okay. Do not do this" no she's kidding right? We are going to save her. "But Chloe-" he tries to argue. "Cantaloupe" She screams. He sighs and says "I won't do it. But I'll find you asshole mark my words" he says then he hangs up. I look at him and shock and he just sighs and walks out the room.

"What the fuck?" I ask while following him out the room. "She used cantaloupe. I can't do anything even if I wanted to" he says in front of the group. They look confused. "Wait! You talked to her? And she used cantaloupe? What did she use it on?" Morgan asks while freaking out. Jackson explains the call. "We aren't going to listen are we?" Joey speaks my thought. "We don't have a choice. She used cantaloupe" Tony says clenching his fists. "What the hell is cantaloupe?" I ask tired of not knowing. Jackson,Tony and the girls look at each other and sigh. "She made up this rule when we were all originally in the gang. If any of us said cantaloupe we follow their directions no matter what. Even if it's life or death" Vanessa says speaking for the first time since she found out about Chloe. She starts crying again and Jackson goes and comforts her. "Well doesn't this situation veto the cantaloupe rule?" I ask hoping for a yes. "No nothing vetos the cantaloupe rule" Jackson says while comforting Vanessa. I feel my blood boil and I turn around and punch the wall. Everyone looks at me with wide eyes but I ignore them and go outside to blow off some steam.

I've been sitting out here for about 20 minutes just thinking about Chloe. I mean I can't stop myself. She's the only girl I've ever felt this way about and now she's gone and won't let us save her. I feel a presence next to me and ignore them. "She's strong. She'll be okay" Keith says trying to calm me down. "But what if she isn't? She might be strong but it doesn't make her indestructible." I say staring at my fists. "I know. "Do you think you are the only ones upset about this? Well you aren't because everyone inside is upset over it. We are going to find her we just have to go another way of doing it" he says putting a hand on my shoulder. I nod my head and start to think then an idea pops in my head. I jump up and look at Keith who looks confused. "Get up! I have a plan" and with that I run back into the warehouse.
