Chapter 38

RYDER'S POV
"Call him and pretend to be in Kentucky. Ask if he wants to hang out." I say instructing Tati. "Okay" she says than dials his number. "Hello" I hear a male voice say. "Hey Kyle. It's me, Tati" she says. "Oh umm hey. What's up" he says nervously. "I'm back in Kentucky for a couple days and was wondering if you wanted to meet up" she says while eying me for a reaction. "Sorry, I can't" he says with hesitation. She looks at me and I mouth 'ask why' and she nods. "Why? Are you okay?" She asks sounding actually concerned. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just out of town. I'm actually visiting Chloe" he says the last part quieter. She looks at me and I mouth 'end it' and she nods again. "Oh okay. Tell her I said hi. Have fun. I'll talk to you later" she says and waits for a reply. "Bye" is all he says than hangs up. I walk out to the others. "He's here." is all I say before walking back and grabbing Chloe's phone.

I call a friend of mine to see if he can track Kyle's phone. He said he'll see what he can do. For now I'm talking to the gang seeing what else we can do. "What was the name Brody said again?" Vanessa asks. "Kaleb" I say seeing if she knows anything. She shares a look of sadness with Morgan then turns back to us. "What was that?" Cole asks eying them suspiciously. They both look at each other again and sigh "Kaleb was Chloe's first love" Morgan says. "I thought she didn't believe in love" I ask remember her mentioning that. "He's why she doesn't believe in love." Morgan says. "They met in 2nd grade and we all became really good friends but Kaleb and Chloe had a different kind of relationship. They swore they were going to get married one day. They were each other's first kiss and had a fake wedding and everything. When they got to middle school they finally made it official and started dating. They had a bond that was unexplainable. Chloe believed she loved him and we were sure he felt the same. So she went to his house to tell him and found out he was gone. He didn't say goodbye or anything he just left. She cried for days but eventually got the courage to call him. Turns out he moved away and didn't want to hurt her but it was too late. After Kaleb she swore she would never fall in love again" Morgan finishes while looking at her hands. "What about Kyle? She was with him for 2 years, didn't she love him?" Jackson asks. "No, she wouldn't let herself not after what happened with Kaleb. She did really like Kyle but she couldn't let herself love him" Vanessa says looking down. That's when I realize this girl has gone through hell and back. What did she ever do to deserve this. I got a text and looked down. "He got an address" I say and we all jump up and run to a vehicle. We are gonna get you princess.

CHLOE'S POV
I've been staring at the clock on the wall waiting for it to hit 9 pm. I'm hoping they'll all be off to sleep and no one can stop me from escaping. It's almost time then someone walks in the door. I look up and see the one person I ever let in. "Hey cupcake" Kaleb says walking in scratching his neck nervously. I ignore him and roll my eyes. "Look I know I've messed up" he says trying to explain but I won't let him work his way back into my heart. "You think? I'm tied up because you kidnapped me after trying to hurt the people I care about. You also did horrible things in the past too. You think I don't know it was you at the party. Well I do" I say with so much hatred that tears start to leave my eyes and won't stop no matter how hard I try to make them. He looks shocked but looks down after "Look I know what I did was horrible and you could never forgive me but, you should know that wasn't fully me" he says fiddling with his fingers. "What do you mean" I ask wondering where he is going with this. "I was on a bunch of stuff and don't really remember much of that night. I'm not trying to play the victim before you say that" he says looking at me. He's right I was going to say that. "I just want you to know that I would never intentionally hurt you." He says with sadness. "Then why do this?" I ask with tears still brimming my eyes. He wipes my tears away with his thumb and says "you don't know the full story. Someone you trust is betraying you" He looks so sincere. "I know Joey betrayed-" I was cut off by his hand covering my mouth. "It's not Joey. Someone who you forgave even after hurting you is behind a lot of this" he says and after we just gaze into each other's eyes. I see so many emotions in his eyes. I see sadness,betrayal, and hurt. We hear a rush upstairs and he drops my gaze and looks back. He gives me one more look and pulls something out from behind his back. It's a gun. I'm confused, oh no he's going to shoot me. "I'm not going to hurt you. If something happens know this will be next to that bookcase" he says and places the gun in the corner. He walks back over to me and kisses my forehead and whispers in my ear "stay safe my cupcake" then he runs upstairs.
