Chase POV: 9 years later

I'm walking in the forest behind the castle to get away from my sisters endless make-overs that she makes me sit through I pretend to like, because that's what princess like to do, I don't though. I hate it, I know I'm only seven but, I do. I hate dresses. I hate my hair up fancy styles. I'd rather just wear a t-shirt and jeans. As I am walking I see a clearing, with a fence surrounding it. I decide to check it out.

"Wow," I say to myself. I don't know what it is but I like it. Inside of the fence its dirt but it has 4 squares that make it look like a diamond. I need to know what this is. I run back to the castle and go to the library to find a book on sports, and page through it. I finally found what I was looking for, the diamond shape I had just found, it's for a game called baseball. I don't know what it is... but I want to find out.

I find all the books I can on baseball. I read them all.

"I need a baseball bat, a glove and baseballs," I say to myself one night while I'm getting ready for bed, "but how to get them?"

I finally went snooping around the castle, and found some equipment it is covered in dust. I take the equipment to the field, and I practice throwing balls at a wood wall I found. I want very good at first but with practice I'll get better.

****Time laps to 5 months later******

I was practicing pitching when, I heard a voice. "Dude, you're really good." I turn so fast that my hat falls off, revealing my long red hair, to the voice belongs to a boy about my age, he stops dead in tracks when he sees I'm a girl. "Sorry, I saw you from far away."

"It's fine," I tell him, "am I really that good?"

"Yeah. I'm Alec, what's your name?"

"Chase," I say but I wish I hadn't, I see the realization hit his face like a truck.

"Chase, as in Chase Schreave?" he asks.

"Ummm... yes?" I say it more like a question.

"Wow, uh okay. I guess I'll be leaving then," he says backing away.

"No! I mean, you can stay if you want to." I say he still looks uncertain.

"You're highness-"

"No! Don't call me that. I need someone to say my name besides my parents and sister."

"I.... don't....I" he stutters.

"Stay. Please? I need help with my hitting. Maybe you could help me?" I question.

"Okay, Chase." he says it warmly.

"Thank you!" I say. Alec pitches to me over and over till it starts to get dark. "Oh my God. How long have we been out here?"

"Awhile," he says.

"Crap! No,no,no!!" I yell.

"What? What's wrong Chase?"

"I'm late for dinner! If I walk into the castle like this," I gesture to me short jean shorts and tank top both have dirt and dust on them, "I won't see tomorrow!!" I exclaim, "I've been late for dinner for a couple of months, but never this late, I'm probably 45 minutes late!"

"Hey, calm down!" he says, "just find a back way in!"

"Okay, okay. I'm calm. Can we meet again tomorrow?"

"I don't know..." he says.

"Please! You're the only one who treats me not like a princess." I tell him.

"Okay, could I bring a friend? I want him to see how good you are." He tells me.

"Ya sure," I tell him. "Thank you so much!"

"Ya! We'll work on pop-flies tomorrow!" he yells as I run toward the castle.

I find a back door and run up to my room. I change into a dress and clean my face and hands. I run down to dinner, and enter the room at full speed. I stop when I see my mother, father, sister, aunts, uncle, and my grandmother's face, and untouched food on their plates.

"I'm sorry I'm late," I say to everyone as I sit down next to my sister.

"We are so glad you could join us, I hope we didn't interrupt anything important?" my father says tightly.

"Maxon, well talk about this after dinner," my mother warns my father. He nods tightly.

We eat in silence. Once everyone is done eating we all get up to leave. "Not so fast Chase." my father warns, he leads me up to his office.

"Why were you late Chase, in fact why have you been late the last few months?" my father asks me.

Come up with a lie, lie now! I think to myself.

"I was, taking a walk." I say.

"Why?" my mother asks me.

"Be-Because I wanted to?" I say.

"Chase, please tell us where you have been going. We need to make sure you are safe." My father says softly.

"I told you I went for a walk, why don't you believe me?"

"We do trust you honey. Chase please sit down," my mother says gesturing to the couch. "Chase, you are the heir to the throne. You need to show up on time for things, you can't sneak around. You have to be trust worthy." My mother says rubbing my back.

"Ugggg! Maybe I don't want to be the heir! Maybe I don't want to be princess!" I yell and run out of the room crying.

"Chase!" my father yells. I keep running, tears blurring my vision I can't see where I'm going, I run into someone.

"Chase!" It's my aunt May, "what's wrong?" I shake my head. "Come on you can talk to me about anything."

"No I just need to clear my head." I say running into my room and crying into my pillows, I finally cry myself to sleep.
