Happy hatching day: Chill

"Happy hatching day to you, happy hatching day to you, happy hatching day dear Chill, happy hatching day to you," the four dragons at Chill's mini hatching day party sang as Chill blew out the candles on his cake. Just under half a year had passed since Robin and Carmine had moved in. Things had returned to normal now. It had taken about a month, but Carmine had calmed down. Whatever had been written on that note must have been really upsetting. The two dragonets had become better at speaking, having been taught little by little by their parents. Chill had made a new friend. He was a MudWing with light brown scales named Toad, who's mother was weird. Instead of staying with her siblings, she wanted to raise a child. So she took Toad's egg and hid on some island in the Bay of a Thousand Scales. They only recently moved just down the street. He was here now, at the lake where Chill was having his party, along with Robin, Seal, and Carmine.

"Time to dig in," Seal said, grabbing a knife and cutting the cake. Chill got the biggest piece.

"You're lucky," Robin said to him. I has to wait another two months for my hatching day."

"No," Toad exclaimed. "YOU'RE lucky. I has to wait three months for mine."

"Okay, maybe I am lucky," Robin replied, smiling. "Anyways..." She gave Chill a huge hug. She had become a lot more clingy to him over the months. She always rolled over so she was touching him at night, and she even started hugging him in her sleep. It was annoying, but he was starting to get used to it.

"Let's swim," Toad suggested, running to the lake, his slice of cake finished. Robin chased after him. Chill quickly shoved the rest of his slice in his mouth and tried followed them, stubbing his talon on the picnic table in the process. As he collapsed on the ground in pain for a moment, he heard a shriek from the direction of the lake. Hobbling over, he found Robin ankle deep in the water.

"Cold, cold, cold, cold, COLD! This water is FREEZING!" She was saying.

"It's not that bad," Chill replied, splashing in the water. It was the perfect temperature for him.

Toad was taking small steps into the water, letting his body get used to the cold. Robin was doing the same, but slower then a snail.

"Really?" Chill said to her, rushing up beside her. "Your taking forEVER! Just jump in. You'll get used to the water much quicker that way. Here, I'll help you out." He skidded his tail across the water, sending up a small wave that splashed over her side and back. She shrieked again, but Chill was far out in the lake by then, swimming in a deep patch of water. Robin wasted no time in flying towards him. Then, she swooped into a dive, angling right towards him. She landed right on top of him, sending them both racing to the bottom in a cloud of bubbles and dust. It took a moment for Robin to get a sense of awareness, but when she did, she flung herself out of the water as fast as she could. Chill noticed a fish in the direction she had been looking before. It wasn't particularly big, but it wasn't small ether. He snatched it up before returning to the surface. He saw Robin over on the shore.

"Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope," she repeated, shivering.

"Yous okay," Chill asked her. She seemed to sit more upright as he said that.

"Yes, just cold," she shrugged it off, as if it wasn't a big deal, even though her teeth were chattering uncontrollably. It looked like she was trying to show off, but Chill didn't really care.

"Would you likes some of the fish I caught?" He flung the fish on the rocky ground between them. Robin jumped back with a scared look on her face.

"Umm, sure," she said, slicing the fish in two and taking the smaller half. She put it on the ground and blasted it with a small jet of flames. Chill devoured his piece of fish immediately. He had a strange feeling Robin was scared of fish, but he didn't ask her about it.

"Are you eating fish without me?" Toad asked, splashing up behind them.

"Oh, here," Robin gave him the piece of fish she had been nibbling on. Being a MudWing, he loved food. So, like Chill, he devoured his piece of fish. The three went back in the water after that, splashing and playing, until it was time to go. As they were packing up, Chill noticed Winter and Lynx walking towards the lake. They had their tails twined and Lynx's belly was larger then normal with the egg she was going to lay any day now. Chill's mother noticed him as well. She grew uncomfortable and tried to pack up faster. Chill wondered again why his mother didn't like Winter. As they left, his thoughts had shifted to how cool it would be to be Winter's son. He would be famous, rich, and next in line to inherit the control of a whole famous town, which was slowly becoming a whole city. He loved his family, don't get him wrong, but it was one of those dreams of being a famous persons child or partner. Instead, his mom said he didn't know who his father was. And if she did know, she refused to tell him. He had grown up his whole life without a father, only his mother and him. Until Carmine and Robin walked into his life that was. Other then that, he thought his family was great.
