This chapter is a tribute to my new pet lizard, who've I've decided to name Echo. If you haven't seen the pictures of him from my Random pictures story, I highly suggest checking that out!

It had been a week of boring, useless school. Slush hated it. She'd rather be out flying, or playing in the lake, or hunting, anything but school. She'd considered running away, like she did in the ice kingdom with her father, but she'd have to leave her dad behind this time.

"Hey, sweetie, you look sad," her dad piped up from the kitchen, looking over at her.

"I HATE school," Slush replied, sitting by the main window.

"Well, I got a present for you," he replied. "You've been so good, and I know you've always wanted a scavenger, so..." He disappeared into his room, and, with a rattling of metal, he brought out a silver cage. In it were a white water dish and food dish, a small bed made of scraps of blue cloth inside a painted white, wooden dish, and a scavenger.

The scavenger was small, with a lightish brown face and a mop of light brown fur on top of its head. It wore an orange piece of cloth, under a larger, brown piece of cloth that covered its arms and was open on its chest, where you could see the orange cloth, with more brown cloth around its legs and black leather covers for its feet.

"This is real, right?" Slush's excitement was through the roof. A real pet scavenger! A scavenger she got to play with and pet and brag about to her friends!

"As real as the tail connected to my body," her dad grinned, holding out the cage to her. She peered at the scavenger. It looked cold and scared, shaking.

"I love it! I love you! Thank you so much!" She squealed in delight, giving her father a huge hug.

"Watch out, or you'll squeeze all the frostbreath out of me. An IceWing without frostbreath is a sad sight to see," her dad smiled.

"I'm just so happy! Thanks again!" She took the cage out of his talons and carefully took it to her room.

Her room was painted silver, and was very simple. It held her bed, with neatly folded, white blankets, a white desk that held a few glass carvings of polar animals, a chair for the desk, and a white table that held a decorative glass tank. It usually held white pebbles with small, light blue, glass plants. The tank had been cleared out, and in it now were three layers of soft blue cloth, with a white dish filled with sand in the corner, for bathroom purposes. A note was propped up against the outside of the tank. Slush put the scavenger cage on the ground and picked up the note and began reading.

Here, you can put the scavenger in here. All food, sand, extra cloth, etc are in the drawer. Feed him twice a day, change his water every morning, and change his litter box every week. Give him a bath every week as well. He's a little feisty right now, but the more you handle him, the calmer he'll be around you. Take good care of him

- Your roommate relative

Slush checked the drawer below the table top, and, sure enough, everything she needed was there. So, she opened the scavenger's cage and grabbed him. He squirmed, squeaking, until she dropped him in the tank. She then lifted all the stuff from the cage and rearranged it in the tank a few times before it looked good. The scavenger shivered a bit, racing over to the blankets. He was quite cute.

"Hello, little guy," she smiled at it, a small smile, as she put the glass lid on the tank. The lid was elevated from the corners, leaving four large gaps for airflow.

"Eep," it squeaked, peering back at her. The two made eye contact for about half a minute.

"What should I call you?" She asked it, knowing it couldn't answer. It was a little silly, talking to an animal.

"Sqarbble," it responded. "Sqaller, eep."

"You know, you're pretty noisy for something so small. I think I'll call you Echo," Slush told it.

He sighed, turning away from her and walking over to his water dish, where he kneeled down and began drinking the water.

Echo. Somehow I'll train you to like me. Then, we'll be friends.

Slush lept onto her bed. She was still so happy to have a scavenger. She couldn't wait to show Chill.
