I'm Not O-Fucking-Kay.
GERARD
I sigh quietly, turning my head in Tom's direction and flash him a smile when I feel him sitting down beside me, on the side that Ollie wasn't occupying. I hear Ollie let out a huff of annoyance, bringing a grin to my face that was so big I had to turn away from Tom to hide it, trying not to laugh when Ollie and I made eye contact.
The final people from our school and a few from other schools started getting settled down into their seats when Frank decided it was time for him to start the evening. He stands up from the mixer that was at the side of the stage, stepping up onto the platform with a guitar in his hand and up to the mic that he had set a little too high for himself and he huffed at himself, going up onto his tiptoes so he could speak into the microphone so everyone could hear him.
"Alright, so this is the first night of performances for you guys. Each of you will be performing tonight, getting graded on your ability and confidence and lyrics. Some of you were complaining about the nerves you'll get up on stage in front of so many people and how difficult it was to write good lyrics, so I wrote my own song last night, threw some guitar with it and aimed for it to show you it can be done if you put your mind to it."
I sit up straighter in my seat when Frank's eyes fall onto me as he adjusts his guitar strap, I still being sat in the front row, not having moved since I turned up here earlier than the rest of tonight's audience, "This song was written about someone and about how sorry I am for what I done. This song's called B.F.F." Jack leans forwards from the row behind me, putting a hand on my shoulder and squeezing me as I tensed, realising this song was going to be about me, that Frank was sorry for everything he done.
Jack leans in a little closer to whisper words I knew that were coming, "You better get back with him before I do." I laugh quietly at Jack and shake my head slightly as Frank starts up playing his guitar, at first focussing on the strings and chords, but then soon turned his attention back to me, looking away every so often so it didn't seem obvious to everyone else.
"You've been with him too? What a slut, first him now Alex? Make your mind up." Jack giggles a little before sitting back in his seat just in time for Frank to start singing, his voice literally radiating with the pain that he was feeling, "Best Friends Forever, Best Friends Forever, Best Friends Forever, but not now. We've always been such Best Friends forever, Best Friends Forever, but not now. I don't know what I did, or what I said 'make you cry, I wish I could take all the pain away from your eyes."
Frank opens his eyes up after closing them through the first few words and directly looks at me, mouthing a 'sorry' before going into the next part, his hands shaking as he continued playing guitar, his voice cracking a little every so often as if he was about to cry, "Things just don't seem right, when you're not by my side. Best Friends Forever, Best Friends Forever, Best Friends Forever, but not now. We've always been such Best Friends forever, Best Friends Forever, Best Friends Forever, but not now."
Frank starts coming to the end of his song, this time looking down at his guitar as he plays, rolling his lips into his mouth whilst he wasn't going to be singing, looking back up and stretching for the microphone once again when he starts singing again, "Things just don't feel right, when you're not by my side. This world just seems too big for me when you're not by my side. I need you around." Frank finishes playing the guitar soon after that, smiling halfheartedly when he hears everyone starting to clap for him, his eyes running over the crowd before stopping at me.
I smile up at him and nod once, mouthing a 'sorry' back up at him to see him shake his head ever so slightly, adjusting his guitar so it was resting behind him as he stretches for the mic once again, "Thank you, now it's time for the first performance, by a band in my music class, Panic? At The Disco? Am I supposed to exaggerate the 'Panic' or what?" Brendon jumps up and heads on stage, patting Frank on the back and directing him off after saying a few words to him.
