Joy had been called down by her mother for the usual Morning Prayer. Normally, she would have grumbled before going downstairs, but since she realized how much her sister needed their prayers, she answered without complaint.

Never in her life had she thought her sister would be kidnapped. She believed that only happened in movies or books, not in reality.

Her sister used to tell her that fictions were an over-exaggerated form of truth, sometimes. The other times, they were facts being told with an imaginative perspective. But that didn’t mean she ever believed any of that, till now.

The prayer session lasted shorter than usual, giving Joy time to lie back in her bed and do a little thinking.

She was still on her bed, staring at the ceiling, when her phone began ringing.

She raised her head and almost ignored the call, before reconsidering. She got up from the bed and walked over to where she had plugged the phone overnight.

“Madam, why are you calling me as early as 6 in the morning?” She said in lieu of hello.

“Have you checked the group-chat this morning?” Oluchi’s voice carried a sense of urgency that caused Joy’s brows to crease.

“You woke up as early as 6 in the morning to be checking gist on the group-chat?”

“Ah! So you haven’t seen it? On your data and check immediately. This one is bigger than news.”

“Nawa o. I wonder what this news is that is making your bum-bum hot (panic) like this.”

“I’m serious, Joy. Treasure is even in big trouble for talking about it.”

“See, just tell me what it is. I don’t have sub or even money to buy sub sef.”

There was a brief silence before Joy heard Oluchi sigh deeply, like she was trying to brace herself for what she was about to say.  “Bayo and Emma used to be close friends in their former school,”

“Ehen? How is that big news?”

“You did not let me finish.”

“Sorry, ma. You may continue.”

“Good.” Oluchi said and Joy couldn’t help but roll her eyes as she chuckled. “Emma has a younger sister that’s not in the same school with us. And it looks like Bayo slept with her back then.”

Joy’s eyes widened. “What?! What are you saying?”

“I don’t know if it’s true, but you know Treasure. I don’t think there has been a time she has ever lied about anything.”

“But…” Joy was too shocked to form a word

One look and one could tell Bayo was a playboy, but going as far as sleeping with his friend’s younger sister, at this young age, was far from despicable and quite unbelievable.

“I know Bayo might seem like that kind of guy,” Oluchi went on over the phone. “but I don’t think he could have done such a thing like that. Although I don’t know Bayo’s age, I know Emma is two years older than his younger sister. So it doesn't make sense for him to do such a thing with her. ”

“Joy!” Mrs. Hannah’s loud voice called from the sitting room.

“I have to go now. My mom’s calling me. We’ll see in school.” Joy said and Oluchi replied with an OK, before they both hung up.

“A well-disci-disciplined student,” the chubby boy at the podium stuttered as he tried to complete each sentence typed out on the paper in his hands.
