Chapter 56: Hayden

Monday, 6:17 P.M. EST

It takes me a while to trust the silence in the house long enough to take my phone out. Dane is long gone, Sierra left a while ago, and though I hear Rob out there shuffling around, he hasn’t bothered to check on me, and I’m certainly not about to seek him out.

The only sound I’ve really been listening for is Evelyn coming back to life and seeking me out. I know for a fact that she’d have a problem with me smuggling a phone in and keeping in contact with Hayden’s life. Not enough to sell me out to Dane, but definitely enough to be annoying about it, and throw it into her ever-growing list of reasons I ask for everything that’s happening to me.

That doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon though. I’m not sure what she overdosed on, but she must be out for the count.

Ty: Alright... hope to hear
from you later miss Jenalyn.
Ty: Later can’t come soon
enough. Is it crazy I just got
some girl from Philadelphia
completely consuming my
mind? I Can’t get you off of it.
I’d really love to get to know
you better.
Ty: What’re you up to today?
Anything fun? I’ve got to go
talk to the guys and team
about a small tour coming up
to promote our new album…
choosing venues. Philly???
Ty: I seriously can’t get you
off of my mind. Distracting me
at work and shit 😉
Ty: I miss you Hayden, for
real...

As soon as I turn the phone on, I’m met with a long string of texts from Tyler ranging from this morning when I told him I had to go, to about an hour and a half ago.

I can’t help but smile as I read the first four texts. Something about Ty keeping up this Hayden-never-existed facade makes all of this oddly easier to deal with.

I consciously ignore the fifth though, excitedly responding to the rest of them the best that I can.

Me: How could that possibly
be crazy for you when I’m
just some girl from Philly,
and TY ROBSON is blowing
up my Inbox all day?
Me: Philly would be cool. I’d
have to see if i could go, for
sure. And nothing fun really.
Just a bunch of normal people
stuff!

I don't expect Ty to respond as fast as he does until I actually think about it. Until I drop the facade and remember that he’s still Tyler waiting for Hayden to come back with “his” baby.

Ty: IF you could go??
Ty: Since when does
Hayden have to see if she
could go ANYWHERE? Do
ANYTHING?

Ugh.

And apparently that was enough for him to drop the facade too.

I try to play it off playfully while still getting my point across. As easily as I would stop sneaking these conversations with him if he didn’t stop shoving Hayden’s problems on me too- I would be a little sad about it…

Hayden loves Ty! Yes, they’ve had their problems, and shit got really crazy for a while- but she does love him!

It'a got nothing on the fangirl Jenalyn though.

Sitting here, being able to talk to him? Forgetting that we were ever together enough for me to ruin us? It’s like… living my fangirl dream! I’m playing out the way things could have been, if not for Dane and everything that he’s turned me into.

It’s how things could have turned out with Gage, my mind quietly reminds me as I send the second message.

I ignore it.

Me: I couldn’t tell you about
Hayden’s life... my name is
Jenalyn. 🙄
Me: I'm just not making any
promises, okay? Gotta play
hard to get!

I wish this phone wasn’t so old, and that I could see Ty typing back. I think I can hear Rob going off about something out in the livingroom; If Evelyn is awake, I should probably turn the phone off and toss it back into the hiding spot…

The phone vibrates softly in my hands.

Ty: You don't got to
play hard to get when I
already got, Hayden.
Remember? We’re having
a baby girl... the world is
waiting to see what pretty
babies we make!

I barely have time to read the message before I’m texting back.

Rob is definitely going off on someone, and as far as I know Evelyn is the only other person here.

Me: I got to go.

I quickly turn off the phone and hide it before quietly making my way over to the door where I press my ear against it in an attempt to hear Rob.

“I swear to fucking God, I’ll drive there right now and make you do it!” He frustratedly mumbles. Thank God for these thin walls.

There’s a short silence before I hear him again, and I wonder why I don’t hear Ev’s smart mouth filling it.  I’m sure she’s drained though; So I guess it makes sense why she’s not going off on Rob for talking to her like that.

“Do it now so I can call him!” Rob says, “He’s not going to fucking kill you, he’s got bigger fish to fry! You want freedom? Here’s your shot! Stop fucking wasting it, and make a move!
