“Dane… this a little unfair?… pregnant… looks like… already been in a fight…”
“Life’s not fair… had to have learned that by now….”
A kick to my shoulder brings me fully back into consciousness. My mind wakes in a panic, working frantically to piece together everything it had lost so I can process my surroundings.
I wish it didn’t.
I’m on the floor. I hear Dane and Rob’s voice behind a loud buzzing in my ears. Everything hurts. Every single part that makes me is in pain right now.
It doesn’t take long for me to put everything together, and to remember where I am and what is happening right now.
Sierra wasted no time before she started flailing her fists around trying to knock me out. I’m not sure if I passed out because she was successful, or if my mind took me away in an overwhelmed panic- but I think I’ve only been out for a couple of minutes.
Sierra tries to land a forceful kick to my abdomen, but the fetal position I maintain on the floor blocks it, leading her to kick my arm instead.
“Stop! Sierra, stop!” I call out, although every part of me is telling me it’s pointless to do so.
I hear Dane let out a hearty chuckle in the background of noise flooding my ears. “Sierra, staaaahp!” he mocks me, his voice raised up in a whiney tone supposed to mimick mine. He quickly changes it back to his own voice. “If you want to stop, Sierra? You can! But remember! She sold you out!”
I hear Sierra scoff. “She did, didn’t she?” she snarls, her breathing heavy from the physical force she’s trying to exert on me. “That wasn’t part of the deal, now was it, Hayden?”
A couple of seconds pass before I hear the crack of someone’s fist on bone, a small yelp, and then the thud of a body hitting the floor before scrambling back up to their feet.
“Don’t entertain that Hayden bullshit!” Dane snaps, his voice heavy. “That is Jenalyn! She ain’t nothing but an over-privileged fucking prostitute!”
I hear Sierra whimper, but she still proceeds to lay a hard kick into my shoulder.
“Isn’t that enough, Dane? She’s not getting up! Look at her!” I hear Rob’s voice break through the ringing in my ears another hard kick to my head causes.
I try to tune him out. He’s the last thing I need to be dealing with right now…
“Stop being such a bitch!” Dane growls at him before directing his voice at me. “Get off the floor, Jenalyn. Is this the kind of mother you want to fucking be? One that can’t even stand up for her bastard?! Get the fuck up and fight!”
Sierra laughs, grabbing a chunk of my hair and trying to lift me from the floor herself.
Why is this girl such a piece of fucking shit?!
“Sierra just fucking stop! He said you could fucking stop!” I scream as every nerve in my body bursts into flames.
She still yanks at my hair though, trying to lift me from my fetal position before resorting to dragging me across the floor, leaving a small trail of blood from my face behind me.
“Come on, man! The shit isn’t even entertaining when the fight is this unfair!” I hear Rob behind the maniacal laughter of both Dane and Sierra as she kicks me again. “Look at all of that blood! Sierra clearly wins this case-”
“Robert, shut the fuck up!” Dane cuts through Rob’s words like a heated knife. “Grow some goddamned balls!”
I’m thankful Dane shut him up. I know he wants to help because he doesn’t want Dane to take another one of his children, but… he’s already walking on thin ice with Dane when it comes to anything involving me. If he wouldn’t do this for any other bitch Dane would throw into Creekside Court- he shouldn’t do it now either.
The last thing I need is Dane finding out about this situation with Rob…
“You’d make a whack mother!” Sierra sneers as she uses her grip on my hair to whip my head backwards. “You’d be doing that thing a favor to get rid of it, girl! Even now! Shit!”
Dane gets a kick out of that, and resumes his maniacal laughter. “You’re going to let her talk to you like that, Jena?” he laughs. “I overestimated you!”
Every part of me wails in pain. I can’t take anymore! McKaiden can’t take anymore!
Sierra falls into a fit of laughter with Dane. McKaiden kicks so hard in my belly I almost feel like she was aiming for Sierra with that one, trying to fight back!
I raise my head for a moment, opening my swollen eyes to catch glances of Dane and Sierra laughing hysterically. They don’t notice when my gaze meets Rob’s panicked glare. They don’t notice when he motions for me to grab the ashtray sitting toppled over on the floor beside my head. They only begin to notice me when I unfold my body to grab it.
But it’s too late for Sierra to do anything by then.
I use her grip on my hair to pull her body to the floor, and work as fas as I can to climb on top of her. Dane is beside himself, disbelief dripping from the ramblings he laughs and yells.
One whack with the ashtray, and lights out.
For Sierra… and me.
