I thought I told Evelyn to get the fuck out, but here she comes strolling in here like I never even said shit.

That might’ve been a while ago.

I’ve lost track of the time standing here listening to Dr. Haines tell me about Jena, and how even in his most unprofessional opinion, she needs to go to the hospital.

I knew she was still dipping into my stash. I really should’ve put a stop to it, but I can’t lie to myself- a part of me was hoping allowing her to dig into it would still get rid of that parasite for me.

Yeah, it almost got rid of a fucking parasite- but it was the wrong one.

Now I got Jena running a fever so damned hot any time she’s not dosing that she’s frying her fucking brain and giving herself fucking seizures! I don’t understand how that thing is still alive, but Jena can’t get her goddamned shit together.

“Ev, out!” I yell, pointing towards my bedroom door though Evelyn makes her way over to me anyway.

“No way!” she immediately retorts. “Sierra said something is wrong with Jena!”

I want to get angry and make her leave solely because I told her to and I hate being defied. I just don’t have the energy. I don’t have any more energy than I’ve to expend processing that, just a little while ago? I thought I was losing Jena.

For real this time. For good this time.

“Shut the fuck up then and stay out of the way,” I mumble, turning back to the doctor just as he finishes taking Jena’s temperature again.

“Her fever isn’t getting any lower,” Haines says, “We need to get her to a hospital, put her in an ice bath, or something to try to get it down… I’m just concerned about the pregnancy in doing that because it’s going to contract both her muscles, and blood vessels... Extreme temperatures are no good during pregnancies; It could be dange-“

I don’t know how many fucking times I have to tell this dunce to stop concerning himself with this goddamned pregnancy!

“-get her in the goddamned ice bath then!” I snap, interrupting him as I make my way over to my bed where he stands over her unconscious body.

I lift her body effortlessly from the bed and begin carrying her into the bathroom, ignoring the worried look Haines won’t wipe from his damned face.

“Get the water running, Ev. Only cold!” I demand as I pass an equally worried looking Evelyn. “-and go downstairs, tell Sierra to go to the front office and get a bunch of ice. A bunch, Ev. Have Rob take her.”

Despite the worried look on her face, Evelyn doesn’t hesitate before scrambling from my room.

When I get Jena to the bathroom and sit her up on the toilet, I go to remove her clothes only for her lifeless body to slide from the toilet and onto the floor.

“Damnitt, Jenalyn!” I growl, lifting her back to the toilet. “Haines, you going to just fucking stand there, or you going to fucking make yourself useful?! Hold her up while I get her clothes off- and don’t get slick with the eyes!

I hear him shuffle into the bathroom after a few moments, but I still sit here trying to hold this fucking bitch up while undressing her myself.

“Uhm- Dane? I think I have to draw the line here…” Haines mumbles behind me, instantly irking my nerves. “I don’t foresee this going well for the baby... she looks like she’s still got at least another 7 or 8 weeks before she’s full-term and given the state of the mother? This could kill that baby. I know we’ve gotten into some things, Dane, but I’m still a human... I can’t just kill an innocent-“

I let him go on for longer than I should have. I don’t have time for this fucking horseshit; Jena isn’t going to fucking die over this shit! I don’t care how much I hate her, how much I’d love to beat the life right out of her- she’s mine.

The devil can have his way with her after I’m long gone.

I stand up, allowing Jena to slide down onto the floor so that I can face big ole Mr. Morality over here.

“Your honor is.., admirable. It really is!” I tell him, a lot more calmly than I actually feel inside right now. I quickly follow up, backing him into the corner of my bathroom. “-to anyone who isn’t under my thumb, Haines. And considering your forged degrees, and the extravagant estate you have for your family of fucktards because of them? I’d say... you’re under my thumbSo... not so admirable.”

Haines is nervous. And I mean, he should be! Shit- I’m fucking nervous!

I don’t have time for a clean-up. I don’t have time to remind this douche of what it means to catch a favor from me, and not return it at my request, no questions asked.

I just don’t have time.

Jenalyn is on the floor, still unconscious, and soaking wet from the sweat her fever induces. If she seizes again, who’s to say she’ll make it out alive this time?

I’ve seen some pretty nasty withdrawals where the bitch didn’t make it out alive, but I’ve never seen some shit like this.

“Dane, you don’t understand-“ Haines goes to say, but I’m quick to put an end to his bullshit.

“Haines, you don’t understand!” I yell in his face, wrapping my hands around his head until my thumbs rest right above his eye sockets. He tries to squirm away from me, but it’s no use. “You’re literally under my thumbs right now, Haines. I will pop your fucking eyeballs from the sockets in your skull! You better choose your next words wisely!”

Only a few seconds pass before Haines let’s out a resigned but shaky sigh. “W-we... we better get the girl in the bath...” he says reluctantly.

I don’t even have the time or energy to bask in knowing what a little bitch he is; I immediately remove my thumbs from over his eyes and return all of my attention back to making sure Jena stays alive.
