Thankyou Sarah :)

What is your name?

Sarah, but I prefer to be called Sara Kate on Wattpad, since it just sounds so much prettier and less boring!

How old are you?

16, but have a maturity age of about 6.

What inspired you to write your first book?

Boredom. It was the summer holidays of 2010, and I was cooped up in my Grandmother’s house, re-reading the only book I had to hand (Twilight, as it happens), and after my third read – and Bella’s hundredth declaration of her irrevocable love for Ed – I thought “I can write something like this!”. So I sat down with a biro and spent the entire day planning The Vampire’s Maid.

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I’m tempted to say JK Rowling, simply because I’m in love with her story and characters (particularly Draco Malfoy), but since that’s cliché and probably untrue, I’d have to go with Daphne Du Maurier. Her books flow so easily; you can practically see the scenes she’s describing in your mind, and her words sound beautiful read aloud. I’d recommend any of her books, particularly ‘Rebeca’ and ‘The Parasites’ to anyone looking for romance/adventure novels with dark undertones.

What is your favourite theme/genre to write about?

Teen fiction, purely because I can relate to it more. Every teenager has her fantasies; I just like to write mine down on paper.

Do you see writing as a career?

I’d LOVE to be an author, but I can’t see my writing at the moment as anything more than bored scribbles; I’m nowhere near good enough to be published, and I doubt I ever will be! It’ll always be a fun hobby, though.

If you could work with any author who would it be?

Real authors? Probably Anthony Horowitz because he’s written so many great things on paper, and for screen. I grew up with the Alex Rider books; Alex was probably my first crush, albeit a fictional one.

Do you use real-life facts based on true stories?

In The Vampire’s Maid I did take some real-life experiences and twist them. Clearly I don’t have vampires running around my school, but platonic love, insecurities, first kisses….I think they’re things that most people can relate to, and I did take my own experiences and incorporate them.

Did you ever think you'd be, where you are right now?

If you mean the thousands of fans and millions of reads, then NO. Definitely not. I’m amazed that anyone would sit down at their computer and actually spend time reading the things I’ve written. It’s amazing.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?

I think I’m in a constant bout of Writer’s Block. I don’t think there’s any point in forcing writing; I usually go on a walk, or read a novel, or simply go out with my friends. I find that these inspire me.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Just enjoy it. If you’re not enjoying writing, reconsider why you’re doing it!

ANYTHING FUN ABOUT YOURSELF YOU WANT YOUR FANS TO KNOW?

I have an evil twin…

(Seriously, I do have a twin, and let’s just say that if she was at Hogwarts, she’d definitely be in Slytherin)

How would you describe yourself?

Nerdy, overly-chatty, annoying
