"are we even going the right way?" jaemin questioned, more like mocking jeno.
"do you want to be the map boy then?" jeno turned to him, handing the map to jaemin. and that was when renjun knew he had to stop them before anything worse happens.
"okay enough." he stepped in between those two and pushed them away from each other. xue let out a relieved sigh.
she really wanted to cuddle or at least hold hands with jaemin but she knew he was going to be very unresponsive towards her form of affections.
moments later, they found their first checkpoint and did their mission, leading them to the next checkpoint. they call cooperated, but with both jaemin and jeno groaning in annoyance every time there was a group mission.
donghyuck found it pretty amusing that both his friends are fighting over a girl. but he decided not to involve himself in their problem. they're practically grown-ups, they could handle it themselves.
"hey jiyu what's your favorite color?" he asked her when they were resting before continuing their trekking.
"hmm? what is it with you?" jiyu asked in confusion. "no just answer me for fuck's sake." donghyuck groaned in frustration.
"you're so random i swear to god. it's yellow," she answered. donghyuck took out his small notebook and jotted down something. "you seriously jotted that down?" jiyu asked, raising her eyebrows.
he shrugged and got up, leaving her confused.
"if you can't tell, he has a thing for you." jeno said straightforwardly, munching on his cookies. "he's cute. and evil." she beamed, getting up from her spot as well before catching up with donghyuck.
jeno smiled at the sight. but his expression darkened when xue joined him. jeno gave her a look and he was about to get up before she pulled him down back.
"you really want me to get them punches from your boyfriend huh?" jeno questioned, eyes looking everywhere but not at xue.
"look jeno. he's not my boyfriend yet. but there is something..." she trailed. "and i'm sorry on jaemin's behalf. i'm sure he didn't mean it."
"if he didn't mean it, he should've apologized to me right after he punched me. but that's not what he's doing right now." his eyes moved to jaemin who's talking to renjun.
he had a pissed look on his face. jeno wondered if renjun's trying to make him apologize or reconcile with him.
"it was my fault. i told him you kissed me. it felt so wrong hiding it from him. so if there's anyone at fault, it should be me." she looked at the ground, unable to look at him.
"hey, it's fine. none of this is your fault. boys fight." he said. the last sentence made her ears perked up. she looked up to meet his eyes and smiled.
"jaemin said the same exact thing when he fought with sunwoo too. you both are really best friends."
jeno shrugged. "well. 10 years isn't a short period. we basically grew up together."
xue let out a sigh. "if it means i have to stay away from jaemin just to fix your friendship with jaemin, then i'll do it." she said seriously.
"ridiculous. human have feelings xue. he fell for you. so did i. you don't feel the same for me and i got over you. some things aren't meant for me and i have to accept it. it's simple as that." the way jeno said that made everything looked easier.
"i just don't want to ruin your friendship." she said looking back on the ground, feeling guilty. "nah. we'll get back together eventually. don't think about it too much." jeno convinced her.
"thanks, jeno." she gave him a smile before getting up. "oh and xue? i know it's hard but let's try being friends again. you're a good friend." jeno asked, in hope that they could continue being friends.
"sure." she nodded and walked to jaemin. renjun and jaemin stopped talking once they saw her walking towards their direction. "hey." she said at them. renjun said hey back to her and jaemin only nodded at her.
xue rolled her eyes at the attitude he's giving her. "we should start heading towards the last checkpoint." renjun stated, getting up and then gathering the others.
they continued their expedition and managed to get the fifth runner up. it wasn't that bad honestly. renjun and xue cooked lunch and they all ate together.
after that, while waiting for the other teams to get back, they're allowed to do whatever they want. donghyuck suggested to a group picture and they all agreed to it.
"remember when someone said he doesn't even want to take a selfie at the camp because it's pointless?"jaemin started. donghyuck just rolled his eyes. "memories my dudes."
"memories or is it because you could take a picture with jiyu too?" renjun teased him, earning a hit from the boy.
"jaemin can we talk?" xue asked in a low voice. "sure." he said, crossing his arms.
"not here. somewhere else. please." she pleaded, making the face she knew jaemin couldn't resist. "fine." he rolled his eyes meanwhile xue smiled sweetly at him.
truth to be told, jaemin missed her affections but his ego is bigger than anything so he couldn't help himself.
they walked to the riverbank jaemin had brought her to yesterday. "what is it?"
"make up with jeno." she said bluntly. "no." he's stubborn. what else could she expect from him?
"your friendship. fix it. if it means i have to walk away from you then i'll do it. i'm not going to be that bitch who ruins someone's friendship for the sake of herself.
it doesn't matter anyway. it's not like we're dating or something." she said dryly. she didn't know where the confidence to say that came from but it came out naturally.
"can you stop?" jaemin asked, annoyed with the sudden change in her attitude.
"stop what?" she asked back, pretending to not understand what he's talking about.
"being irritating. and self-centered? i don't know okay?"
"me? self-centred? you know what na jaemin? i don't even want to know anymore. suit yourself then!" she yelled angrily before walking away from him, leaving him alone.
jaemin stupidly watched her walk away. "na jaemin what have you done?"

omg y'all i really like my crush a lot they're the nicest person ever too bad they'll probably never acknowledge my feelings or wtv i genuinely like someone for ONCE god really making me going thru this kind of heartbreaks huh
