jeno guided her to walk slowly. while walking, she can't help but notice every little details on his face. his sharp nose bridge. his mole. his jaw. his lips.
snap out of it xue! what are you going to do about jaemin? she scolded herself mentally.
"xue?" jeno snapped her attention back to reality. "yeah?" she questioned back, slightly looking up because of the height difference.
"whatever happens after this, i just wanna let you know that i'm sorry and i won't ever regret doing this."
"what are you talking about-"
before she could even finish her sentence, jeno crashed his lips against hers. 3 seconds. she still hadn't responded to his kiss.
xue pushed his chest away and looked away. "i-i'm sorry jeno. i can't do this. we can't do this." she mumbled, tears brimming in her eyes.
jeno smiled. the smile everyone fell for. the one she almost fell for. but it didn't look real. he was forcing it out.
"it's him isn't it?" he questioned, his voice cracking a bit at the end. xue knew who he was talking about. she didn't answer him.
"it's ok. i just wanted to let this out. it feels as if a burden was gone." he explained.
she could feel the pain he was hiring. his smile looked bitter. "i'm sorry." she apologized again. "you deserve someone better. someone that'll love and appreciate you more than anything."
he nodded slowly. holding back his tears. he had never confessed before this because he was afraid of rejection.
now that he had a taste of what rejection felt like, he should've learned his lessons. "let's get you back." he said, biting his lips to prevent him from breaking down.
she clung onto his shoulder and they started to walk. none of them dared to break the silence and they let it remain that way.
as soon as they reached their campsite, donghyuck was already there. "what took you guys so long huh?"
"mind you that xue's injured." jeno said. "whatever let ms. han know first. i'll let the others know." donghyuck blabbered.
jeno helped her to walk again so they could inform ms.han about xue's injury. "xue wait up!" jeno and xue stopped in tracks upon hearing xue's name being called.
they turned around just to find jaemin running towards them. "oh my god are you okay?" he held xue's cheeks, examining her face.
"i'm fine jaemin. i only sprained my ankle i think?"
"you think? god why are you so clumsy?" jaemin started to blabber again, totally ignoring jeno's presence.
"dude i think it's better if we tell ms.han about this. she'll know what to do." jeno finally spoke. jaemin turned to him and nodded. jaemin bent his body and was about to lift xue up when she stopped him.
