In My Daughter's Eyes

You and Loki had agreed upon naming the little angel Axel, wanting something edgy and unique for your son. Axel Phoenix Lokison. He was born just last night and had weighed in at nine pounds, 5 ounces and measured at twenty-one inches long. Most definitely the biggest child of the two. The nurse had come into the room later the following morning to check up how both your conditions, which had included peeking at the incision site from your Cesarean and checking to see if Axel was feeding properly, along with both of your vitals. She was pleased to learn that you had next to no trouble at all getting Axel to latch onto the breast and that he had been a very well behaved baby throughout the night, his waking schedule synchronized like perfect clockwork, waking up every four hours as an average infant would. After she had finished with her routine, she had reported to the doctor who soon came in to ask a few questions of her own, and in the very brief time that she was there, decided that it would be very beneficial for both you and Axel to remain in the hospital for at least a few more days. This of course had disheartened both you and Loki, hoping that you'd be able to enjoy your little bundle of joy in the comfort of your own home.

The days had felt like they would never end, and Loki had taken Amara home, knowing that she would eventually grow very restless just sitting around a dull hospital with nothing at all to do. He and her had come frequently as they possibly could for visits and there were times that Loki would come alone, leaving Thor in charge of watching over his niece; he was also very eager for the day to come that he would get to meet his nephew, and was over the moon when Loki had contacted him to share the news of his arrival. Thank the Norns that you can't hug someone over the phone, Loki had rejoiced, grateful that Midgardian technology wasn't that advanced. At least not yet anyway. On his solo visits he would bring you some of your favourite treats, along with some flowers to brighten your day and even brought along some more onesies for Axel, knowing by now, after raising one child together, that you would be in dire need of them.

As he sat with you, holding his sleeping son in his arms, the two of you began to talk about how lucky you were to have the chance to be blessed with this beautiful family and to have found each other; saying that it was destiny that had brought the two of you together when you needed one another the most. You both gazed deeply into each other's eyes and just as you were about to say something, the doctor had walked into the room, holding up some papers that you had hoped were your discharge papers. You couldn't have been more on the money, even if you tried. A wide smile formed on both yours and Loki's lips, ecstatic that you were going to be on your way home within the next two hours, after the staff had everything sorted out of course. Paper after paper was signed, and after what seemed like forever, the three of you were finally headed back to the place you desired the most. Home at last.

Life with a newborn little boy certainly wasn't easy, but somehow you and Loki managed it; it was very helpful that Amara was more than eager to lend a hand, even if it did inconvenience you a few times, like when you were nursing him or trying to get him to sleep. You and Loki both knew that she meant well and that's what mattered most, it was nice to see that she was taking the role of older sibling quite seriously for a girl her age. Though there were times were she would get a bit jealous and grow impatient, feeling as if no one had time for her anymore, but after Loki had gently sat her down to have a little chat with her, she soon grew to understand that Axel needed a bit more care and attention to survive.

As if things weren't hectic enough with the baby around now, you and Loki also had another milestone to prepare for, Amara's first day of school. Now, you would think that she would be the one who should be feeling nervous and afraid, having never interacted with other kids much with the exception of the trips she had made to the park with you and Loki every now and then. Nope. In fact, Loki was much more nervous than she was, and on numerous occasions, you would catch him frantically pacing about the place, muttering things to himself. Some days you could've sworn that you had three children, not a husband, a first grader, and a newborn.
