A/N: Trigger warning- mentions of self harm, starvation, body issues, mental health (depression). Other than that, enjoy guys!
Every teenager goes through their own struggles, be it the pressure trying to keep their grades up so that they can get into the university of their dreams, or to try excel at whichever extracurricular activities that they might be in. Some just want to be popular and others have some more internal issues, such as depression and anxiety, feeling as if they won't ever be good enough for whatever reason. Maybe it's because they don't think they'll ever be accepted by their peers or that they're having a rough time at home. Sometimes other problems form from these thoughts and unfortunately, Amara just happened to experience this; which was something that no one ever thought would happen. She was always so happy and seemed so confident in her daily life. That was all one big lie, as she did her best to cover it up with a facade of bravery; not wanting to have anyone worry over her, especially her father. She knew that he would fret and most likely blame himself if he found out that she wasn't feeling like herself.
Nearing that age where she would be getting prepped to take exams and figure out what exactly it was she wanted to do for her future, the stress was really beginning to get to her and she was questioning so much about herself, especially after her former boyfriend had just used her like a toy. Amara wasn't sure who she was anymore and so she began to vent in rather unhealthy ways, not caring about the consequences. She wouldn't eat, stating to you and Loki that she simply "wasn't hungry" or that she "already ate," which of course were lies that Loki caught onto. He became more and more concerned as she appeared to have been losing a bit of weight, so he would come to her room with the plateful of food that she refused to eat at the dinner table; leaving it on her bedside table on the premise that she promised to eat at least a few bites. Of course she just used her seidr to make the food disappear, a method that fooled even her dad—for now anyway.
That was just the tip of the iceberg sadly. Whenever Amara knew that she'd be alone for awhile, she would summon a dagger and cut herself, mainly her arms but sometimes on her legs as well and would hide the scars with long sleeves. You and Loki didn't think much of her sudden change in wardrobe at first and in all honesty, Loki actually that she was trying to be more modest; something that he was perfectly fine with, as he still had zero trust for Midgardian men. Or anyone for that matter when it came to his little princess. A week had gone by since that all started and he soon began to think that there was another reason for the long sleeves, a very disheartening one at that. So he decided to go and have a little heart to heart with his daughter, terrified of what the outcome might be. "Amara, could I come in please," he pleaded as he knocked on the door, a gentle tone to his voice. Silence, that's all there was afterwards. He knew that she was in there, he could sense it. A quiet sigh escaped from his lips and he decided to try the door, finding that it was unlocked and slowly opened the door, entering her room. Amara laid on her bed with her back turned to him, staring out at the wall and wore her favourite black hoodie, hugging her pillow. She made sure to keep her right hand underneath the pillow to hide the knife that she was about to use to make yet another set of scars; until her father had paid her a visit.
Loki closed the door behind him and sat down beside her on the bed, a worried expression on his features at he looked down at her. "Amara sweetie, what's going on with you? Your mother and I are both very concerned about your well-being. Please talk to me, I just want to help you," he said, trying to keep his voice from breaking. She didn't flinch a single muscle and continued to not make eye contact with him. "I'm fine dad. I just want to be alone," she stated, hoping that it would be enough to make him leave; of course it wasn't, Loki knew that she was lying. "You know that you can't lie to me. You're acting differently than you normally do and the fact that you've constantly been wearing long sleeves is very peculiar to me. What are you hiding Amara? Please tell me that you haven't been hurting yourself." There was a tight, nervous coil that had formed in the pit of his stomach and that feeling only worsened, spreading throughout his body as she pinched her eyes closed, with a single tear rolling down her cheek. Her prolonged silence and that tear was more than enough to tell Loki that his sweet, bubbly daughter was suffering deeply, that she was in fact causing harm to herself and it broke his heart more than he could have ever imagined. If she was hurting, then so was he and he wished that he could cast a spell to make everything alright for her again, but magic didn't work that way; it would only come back three fold if he did attempt anything too and that could only make things worse for her.
