seonghwa and raehyun first met back when they were trainees, however, many thought they hated one another despite having a mutual friend - this friend being hongjoong. as trainees, the pair didn't essentially have the great chemistry and communication they're seen to have nowadays but were actually more timid and introverted. both of them barely spoke a word to one another and if they ever crossed paths, they'd mumble a greeting before rushing off to wherever they needed to be. this demeanour between the two almost automatically changed when they were grouped together with the other members of ateez for their debut. in the beginning, seonghwa was hesitant about a female joining a male dominate group merely because it was an uncommon thing to see in the industry, but after getting to know raehyun and getting closer to her, he learnt how devoted she was to the art of music and how kindhearted she was to all people and animal of all sizes and races. as their friendship developed to be closer, he began viewing her as the daughter he'd like to have in the future - promising her parents when they met that he'd take care of her, ensure she was eating and drinking healthy, taking her vitamins, not overworking herself etc. he was also always around whenever she needed a shoulder to lean on or someone to talk to. he became a parental figure for her and she's grateful to have someone like him as her member. in a way, she often shows her gratefulness to him by avoiding getting into trouble and lessen his struggles of cleaning the dorms and just over not being a cause of stress to him.

hongjoong and raehyun both met when they first started training under kq entertainment. they both had the same lesson and introduced themselves to one another, from here it would be when their friendship began blossoming into a closer relationship; one similar to a father and daughter. the pair often talked during the late nights about their lives and where they'd see themselves in the future as well as talking about their passion for music. often times, raehyun would visit and stay with hongjoong in his studios, watching and silently learning from hongjoong about producing and writing lyrics. he'd notice and offer to teach her some things which, she now uses those lessons when creating her own songs alone during late nights at the company. when they were grouped to debut as ateez, they were both over the moon to be debuting together with the other team members and naturally grew a tendency about talking about how grateful they were to have the ateez members and everyone around them who had shown their team love and support. hongjoong also, like seonghwa, cares very deeply for raehyun and is very protective of her. he has a tendency of always looking over to her and making sure she's comfortable and feeling okay when promoting, making sure she's eating fine and taking her vitamins. everyone practically knows that his weak spot is raehyun alone, evident in the fact that he would drop everything immediately just to help her with something, or to buy her something, or just to be near her if she wasn't feeling okay. he would be ashamed of himself if he were to allow something harmful to happen to her and he or any of the other members weren't there to protect her. in return for all of this, raehyun treats him with respect and does not tease him a lot compared to the others - the same goes for seonghwa. in their free time, they will produce or customise things together and just talk about life.
