Kai has been listening in on the conversation four months ago when they were deciding what to do with him. He didn't understand what that pang was when he saw that girl had a boyfriend.

He learned her name was Mary Beth. He still didn't understand why she saved his life. He figured she was one of those idiots who had feelings and cared about people. But he should probably thank her one of these days. When Alaric and Jo left he thought he would go after them to finish what he started.

Then decided against it. He may not have had feelings, and he may have been stronger than what he was before. But he didn't like the idea of being killed violently.

Four more months and she's be back. He didn't know why he was so excited to see car pull up in the driveway to the Salvatore's house four months later. It wasn't her boyfriend this time.

She had a smile on her face but Kai knew she was sad on the inside. Everyone in the Salvatore house decided it would be best to keep an eye on him.

He didn't disagree. It was fun messing with them these last four months. But it was absolute torture for Damon.

Mary Beth knocked on the door happy to be home finally. When the doe opened she was greeted with a smiling Kai.

"Hello there gorgeous." He said.

"Hi." She replied giving him a small smile.

Kai didn't realize how good looking was. She had light brown eyes almost amber. Curly dark brown hair tied half up and a slim frame. She had a sunflower dress with a leather jacket. She had a red backpack hung over her shoulder and a book in her arms.

"Is uh Damon here or my sister or someone?" She asked still slightly smiling.

"Actually everybody is hiding in the kitchen to surprise you."

"Kai dammit!" Someone yelled from the kitchen.

Mary Beth laughed and walked past Kai. She put her backpack on the floor and took off her jacket. She walked into the kitchen and everyone came out of hiding yelling, "SURPRISE!"

"Happy coming back day!" Caroline yelled with a plate of red velvet cupcakes in her hands.

"Ooh my favorite." She said picking up one.

She went around and hugged everyone for a total of eight seconds. She really missed them and college life is stressful. She was glad to be home.

Damon smacked Kai on the back of the head for spoiling the surprise. Mary Beth laughed and took another cupcake to the living room.

"You have no idea how much we missed you!" Caroline yelled.

"Oh I think I have a pretty good idea." She laughed.

Everyone filled her in on all the stuff she missed which wasn't a lot. Most of it was their complaints about Kai and how annoying he was.

He kept saying "Hey. I'm right here."

But Damon always replied with, "We know."

"Is my room still the same?" Mary Beth asked.

"Yes no one ruined anything. This idiot kept going in there so I had to mark it off." Damon said pointing to Kai. "By the way thanks again for saving his life then leaving him here for four months."

Mary Beth gave everyone hugs again and started to head upstairs. "Love you Damon!" She yelled with cupcake in her mouth.

"Yeah yeah." He said dismissively as she walked upstairs to her room.

Kai went to follow her without anyone noticing which was surprising because at every moment of every day the people in that house were watching him.

He knocked on her door while saying, "Knock knock."

She turned around looking surprised. "You don't have to say it if your doing it."

"I know but it's fun."

She nodded her head smiling at him and continued to put away her things.

"I have a question." Kai said suddenly.

"Me too. Why are you sitting on my bed?" She asked looking at him in the eyes.

"Because I have a question." He replied as if it was obvious.

"Mmm. Well what's your question." She asked turning her head.

"That night at the wedding you know when I tried to kill my sister?"

"Yes I know I was there."

"Right. Why didn't you let Damon kill me violently. I mean I did put that spell on your sister and Bon Bon. And Jo would have died too."

"I'm not sure. When I saved them I figured not much harm was done after all. You seem like your crazy and Damon tells me your a sociopath. But we don't kill for fun."

Kai looked back at her still wondering why she didn't think it would be easier just to have Damon kill him.

"How about this. I saved you so technically your my responsibility. How about I teach you not to be so much of a crazy sociopath so you don't hurt and kill people and I teach you what feelings are-"

"Feelings? Is that some sort of song or something?" He asked looking confused.

"-and in exchange Damon won't kill you violently." She said as if he hadn't said anything. "I don't know why, but I think there's some good in you. I think this could work."

"And if it doesn't. If I can't be fixed or learn what these so called "feelings" are?"

"Well then Damon will have one fun Friday night." She said. "Also I'm not trying to fix you. I'm trying to help you."

"Help me? Why?"

"Because. I want to. Don't you want to know how it feels to, well, feel?"

"Darling I haven't felt anything in years." He grinned.

"That's where I come in. Emotions are weird and complicated but every person has them."

"I'm not a regular person as you can see."

"Obviously. But it's either this or Damon chopping you up into little pieces slowly."

He looked up at the air thinking about her proposal. He was in deep thought. Fine. It's not like it'll work anyways. He could fake it then run away from this house and live his life without having a pair of eyes on him all the time.

He had it all thought out. He'd pretend to get better then kill them and get the hell out of here. Seems like a solid plan.

"You got yourself a deal." He grinned shaking her hand.

Mary Beth seemed pleased with her self. She wasn't exactly excited about the whole situation, but she was happy she was going to be able to help him.

Poor girl. If only she knew what she was getting herself into. If only she knew what lie ahead.
