When Mary Beth woke up she had a blanket on her. That's why she was so warm last night. She turned over her phone to see what the time was. It wasn't to late but she knew Owen wouldn't be here.

He had basketball practice. Either that or he was playing basketball at the park with friends. She wasn't too sure. She saw that she had a missed call from Kai.

She was confused as to why he called. She tapped on the notification to call him back. He answered immediately.

"Beth?" His voice answered.

"Hey."

Mary Beth didn't know why but hearing his voice immediately made her feel better about last night. It was soothing.

"Are you alright?" He asked.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Why?" She lied.

"Oh. I'm not sure I just got this weird thing- anyway it doesn't matter. How's your time there?"

"It's um actually really nice me and Owen-"

They spent about three hours talking again, about random things. Kai could tell something was wrong. He could tell by the sound of her voice. And that weird stomach feeling was still there.

Mary Beth felt a lot better about last night talking to Kai. She hoped they were getting closer so he could care better. Which they were of course. But she had her doubts.

Then the door opened. When she looked up Owen was there. He smiled at her but she didn't smile back. Which was crazy when it comes to Mary Beth. She smiles at everyone.

"Uh Kai?" She said.

"Yes?"

"I gotta go. I'll text you later Alright?" She told him.

"Yeah sure." He said.

Then she hung up the phone.

"So Kai huh. That one heretic?" He said walking across the room. "Did last night teach you nothing?"

"Seriously? That's what your first thought is?" She said getting up from the couch. This was getting ridiculous already. Not an apology, showing signs he was sad, not even a nice gesture.

"I'm just saying. Talking to Daniel now Kai. Something I should know about?" Owen said any hint of a smile gone from his face.

They had yet again another fight. She didn't tell but she was mad. She didn't let him get close to her afraid he would do something to her again. Then she thought that's this was ridiculous.

Your not supposed to be scared of the man you love.

Your not supposed to worry about what terrible thing your boyfriend is going to do to you next.

"Wait. This is ridiculous."

"What?" He asked.

"This is." She gestured her hands between them. "We fight way too much. You put your hands on me. You should never do that. You get jealous over the over the littlest things. Maybe we just need to simmer down."

"What you mean like a break?" He said confused.

"No. No. I don't want to get into that whole FRIENDS thing." She told him trying to figure out what to do.

"I'm going to leave for a couple hours and when I come back I can think of something for us to do." She said grabbing her jacket.

He let her walk out.

"Son of a bitch!"

"What's wrong?" Denise yelled from the other room.

"Oh nothing just tripped sorry!" Kai yelled back.

He had spent the whole day with Denise again being dragged around places. He guessed he didn't mind too much but he still felt that bad feeling in his stomach that something was wrong.

Not just something. Mary Beth.

She called him on the phone an hour ago which made him feel better, but then hung up so suddenly and he was right back to square one.

He hated that. He felt...sad? Maybe. He wasn't sure yet. But something was definitely...off. He could feel it. But he didn't know why.

He zipped up how jeans and put his shirt back on thinking Denise would want to go out again. But when he got out to the living room she was sitting on the couch.

Yes. He thought, thinking they could spend some time together inside.

"Ugh finally there you are." She said getting up to kiss him. "Come on let's go." As she grabbed her bag and walked out not waiting to see if he followed.

Dammit.

Mary Beth was walking around town when she decided to go to that diner her and Kai always go to when their there. She felt to weird to get pancakes.

So instead she ordered a small peanut butter milkshake to sip on while she was rethinking her relationship. What was she doing? She loved Owen. She remembered when they first met at college two years ago.

Flashback:

She was walking down the hall— no she was running down the hall to get to class. Freaking Elena! She was hogging the bathroom this morning so she got here late.

She was almost to her class when she bumped into a wall. No not a wall. A boy! Oh crap.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry." She said picking up her books.

"Hey it's alright don't worry about it." They boy said.

He picked up her pencil when she was frantically looking around for it. She got up and saw that he had it in his hand. Your an idiot, she thought.

She smiled and took it from him, "Thank you." She said realizing how good looking he was. "Um I'm Mary Beth."

"Owen."

Now:

After that Owen started hanging around her all the time. Until he one day finally asked her out. She was so flustered she didn't answer for a full five minutes. The poor guy was so worried.

She had always found the way they met funny. It was like a scene on one of those movies where the geeky girl runs into the hot guy and they fall in love avoiding stereotypes. Actually, that is what happened.

Then she realized how much she cared for him. She had to fix this. She wouldn't give up on them. She knew he cared too. She had to go back. So she did.

But she wished she didn't.
