Mary Beth and Kai had been together for five years. After three years they stopped getting comments from their friends. Kai kept his promise and made up for their nine months they lost.
They travelled the world together. They went anywhere and everywhere. His love for her only grew. She graduated college and was happy. When they told their friends they wanted to leave, no one could blame them.
They always visited of course. Her sister and best friends were there. But her world was Kai. And she was his.
They were currently in the forest camping at He very same spot they did the last time they were here. It was technically their first date destination. He was incredibly nervous and Mary Beth didn't know why.
There relationship was comfortable but steamy. All that time apart just made their affections grow. Mary Beth was roasting a marshmallow in the fire he made looking as happy as she did the first time.
"Mary Beth." Kai said.
"Yes?" She replied looking over to him.
"...I love you. That's all." He stuttered kissing her lips.
"Okay weirdo."
She laid her head on his shoulder happily eating her s'more. Mary Beth wasn't sure if he forgot but there connected somehow and she could feel his nervousness.
"Kai? Are you okay?"
"Of course why wouldn't I be? I'm with you."
"Smooth."
"I always am."
"You wouldn't mind if I went to go chase the fireflies again would you?" She asked.
"Such a child. Actually that's a great idea. Go ahead and start I'll join you in a moment." He answered.
"Thank you." She leaned over and kissed him lovingly.
Then she ran off so she could go chase them. The nervousness in her stomach grew worse. What was up with him? Mary Beth got worried and it only made the bad gut feeling worse.
She caught one in her hand smiling like a little kid.
"Yay!" She exclaimed.
She opened her hand and it zoomed off like it had somewhere to be. Suddenly a trail of fireflies made a line to go behind a tree, guiding her.
It was Kai she thought. She smiled and followed the trail of fireflies. What was he doing?
When she got behind the tree nothing was there. Well the fireflies were there but they were just hovering there. What is Kai doing?
Suddenly the fireflies rearranged themselves with magic to make words that made Mary Beth tear up.
"Will you marry me?"
She gasped at the words. Did he mean to do that? Was he serious? She turned around to find him down on one knee.
"Oh!" She said covering her mouth tears falling down her cheeks.
"Mary Beth, I-"
"Yes!" She yelled. "Oh sorry you have to ask. My bad make your loving speech."
Kai laughed also tearing up a little. "Mary Beth. I'm not going to get corny. But you are quite literally my soulmate. You over look all of the things that I've done. It is so easy to fall in love with you. I couldn't help but want to spend the rest of my immortal life with you. I never thought I would be doing this ever. I never thought I'd have someone to care so deeply about. I also never thought I'd have someone to care about me so much and accept me. So will stick by my annoying side, and marry me?" He asked pulling a velvet box out of his jacket.
Mary Beth laughed and cried a little more before she answered.
"Yes."
