"So today was a good day right?" Mary Beth asked as she pulled into the driveway.
"I guess it was pretty fun." Kai said with a small smile on his face.
"Oh please you enjoyed yourself. What about that girl. Denise? Maybe she could turn into that person you care about most."
"Maybe."
Mary Beth didn't say anything. Instead she reached over and flicked his ear.
Kai looked at her with wide eyes of shock. Mary Beth just raised her eyebrows at him.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"Every time you get gloomy, I'm going to flick your ear." She told him in a matter-of-fact way.
"May I ask why?" He smiled sarcastically.
"Because the whole point of this thing here." She waved her hands around. "If so that your the opposite of gloomy. Your happy and feeling-full."
"I wasn't actually gloomy so I have free reign to flick your ear." He said reaching over to flick her ear.
But she dodged out of the way before he was able to. Kai put his head back and tried to do it again to her other ear. She kept doing this until she looked like a bobble head.
"Beth let me flick your ear." He whined.
"No." She said with a small smile on her face.
"Yes."
"No." She said her smile getting wider as she got out of the car.
"Yes. Yes yes yes." He yelled as he started chasing after her.
She ran up the driveway laughing the whole time, to the front door opening it up with her magic. She was going to enter to close he door on him but he used his new vampire speed to catch up to her grabbing her by the waist from behind and flicking her ear.
"Ow." She said laughing as she entered the house.
"Serves you right." He said in the same mocking tone she did earlier when she explained that he shouldn't have don't those things to people.
They were looking at each still laughing not realizing that there were four pairs of eyes on them.
"Well, well, well." Damon said getting up from the couch. He said nothing more, instead he started slow clapping. Very slowly.
"Damon." Elena scolded.
"You we're gone a long time. We've been worried." Caroline told them.
"Sorry we went out of town." Mary Beth explained.
"What?" They all said at the same time.
"Ooh that's my cue to....sit down and drink some bourbon." Kai said letting go of Mary Beth and sitting down on the couch.
"Why would you take him out town?" Damon yelled at the same time Elena said, "Damon stop yelling!" Incidentally all at the same time Caroline said, "Why were gone so long?"
"One person at a time please." Mary Beth said calmly.
"Why would you allow him to leave town?" Damon practically screamed.
"My God Damon." Elena said as she went over to Kai grabbing the drink out of his hand and downing the rest.
Kai didn't even try to protest. He understood. Damon is a bit much sometimes. Which is a lot coming from him.
"Damon why are you always yelling?" Kai asked. "Mary Beth didn't do anything wrong at all it is solving is you giving us all headaches. Humph. And I thought I was annoying." Kai said refilling his drink.
"Why were you gone so long?" Caroline asked while ignoring Damon's glaring eye at everyone.
"We lost track of time. Sorry Caroline." Mary Beth replied, looking really sad.
Caroline immediately jumped up and hugged Mary Beth tightly. She quickly returned the hug since she loved hugs just as much as Caroline did. That's why they were best friends.
"I'll see you guys tomorrow." Caroline said grabbing her stuff and heading towards the door.
"Wh- that's it? Forgiven? Just like that?" Damon yelled.
"Yeah that's it." She said as if it was obvious.
"Geez you guys act like I'm Satan or something." Kai said in the background.
"Kai calling you Satan, would be an insult to Satan." She replied.
Mary Beth laughed at the way his face went and how he put his hands up, "But still. Mary Beth can look after herself. She never said she had to teach Kai how to be less killy in this house. She's her own person." And with that Caroline walked outside.
Mary Beth was grateful for her blonde best friend for always having her back. She knew she could be a bit much at times, but Mary Beth loved her nonetheless.
"For once I agree with Barbie. Mary Beth is her own person. And while I don't entirely like you guys, no offense, I enjoy her company. That was the point of this agreement for her to help me so if you guys don't like it then, oh well." Kai said grabbing Mary Beth's hand and walking up the stairs.
She didn't say anything. She walked out awkwardly with Kai up the stairs.
"You got in trouble." Kai teased as they walked inside his room.
"I did not. I wasn't in trouble, that time." She said innocently.
"Beth I enjoyed that little therapy session we had today. Does that make you feel better or are you going to flick my ear again?" He asked as she sat down on the bed.
"No no I'll keep my promise just watch yourself Parker." She replied.
Then she turned her head and scrunched her eyebrows. "Beth?" She asked.
"I have a feeling no one calls you that?" He replied referring to her confused expression.
"Yeah everyone calls me by my full name. Unless I'm in trouble then they say."Mary Beth Nelson Gilbert!" It's great." She smiled sarcastically.
"Are you like that Hairy Plopper kid? Were your parents hippies? Because you have a lot of names. One person can only have so many names." He asked waiting for her to blow up.
"Kai! Fir—"
"Relax I'm kidding. It's funny when you get all worked up like that." He said laughing at her expression.
"You think your so funny." She said standing up.
"I'm hilarious actually." He corrected.
"Goodnight Kai." She said as she wrapped her arms around him.
"Wh- what are you doing?" He asked clearly uncomfortable.
"I'm hugging you." She said as if it were obvious.
"Why? This is uncomfortable." He replied.
"It's part of the deal, now hug back before I flick you." She said.
Kai hesitantly wrapped her arms around her return the hug. It was a new feeling. No one had hugged him before. No one had ever wanted to.
His hateful family sure wouldn't. So when Mary Beth hugged he had a weird feeling. As if he were soaring through the sky. As if she cared about his feelings or something.
Then he felt a flick on his ear, and a series of giggles.
"I wasn't gloomy that time!" He said while she was still giggling.
"I couldn't resist. Goodnight Kai!" She yelled as she ran out of the room before he could flick her back.
Kai smiled to himself. Not a bad day. He thought. Not bad at all.
