Gone but not forgotten

There was that feeling, like you were waking up from a nightmare, only to find out you were still trapped, being dragged down by the tendrils of the demons. Everything around me slowly came into focus, and my stomach lurched at the sight of it. My emaciated body, a crumpled heap on the floor in front of me. "No, no...no..." My voice was a raspy whisper. I shut my eyes tight, hoping it wouldn't be in my presence when I opened my eyes. Something else was there, and whatever it was, I knew that it was meant for me. There was a gravel pathway leading into the woods. Not just any woods. My woods.

Our woods.

I felt completely numb, emotionless as I followed the path, everything was unchanged. Since...we grew up. There it was; where it all started. Our old treehouse. I silently climbed the ladder, crawling into the small home. I could feel the sadness pent up inside of me. I peeked in one of the rooms, hearing my own heartbeat throbbing against my chest. This has to be some kind of sick and twisted nightmare. I peeking in, and I saw her, long auburn hair tucked under the bandana. Petra. And then Lukas, wearing a permanent grin on his face, his old leather jacket on. And most hauntingly, me. My face glowing as I joked around with them, just us, nothing else that could sever our friendship. I closed my eyes again, and when I opened them, there was something else. I looked around, taking in my surroundings. It was...a graveyard. My vision focusing on a gravestone in front of me. There was just emptiness as I read what it said.

Rest in peace Jesse.

"We can."

Nothing else but me, and the gravestone. Nothing. Then I heard rustling behind me, footsteps. My heart broke at the sight. All of my friends, gathered around my gravestone. My gravestone. "Miss you, Jess." Lukas said, breaking the silence. Petra stood there, stiff and cold. Olivia had her arms wrapped around Axel, looking as if she were about to cry. "No...guys..." I tried to put my hand on Petra's shoulder, and it was like I was translucent. My hand went right through her. "Petra..? Hello?" I choked out, waving my hand in front of her face. It's like I was a ghost. Was I? I closed my eyes one final time, this time I was in Petra's room. Her golden sword was broke in half, on the floor, how she cared about it so much yet it's broken. Petra was laying on her bed, her head in between her knees as violent sobs racked her body. "Why?!" She managed to get out, her body quivering. "Petra...I'm so sorry..." I whispered, and as if she could hear me, her head shot up. "...Jesse?" She looked up, tears streaking her face, her eyes bloodshot and bags under them. "Petra.." I whispered, my hands shaking as I tried to touch her. Against my will, my eyes closed again, the darkness pulling me down. Crossing the barrier between life and death. I heard her whisper one more thing.

"I miss you...."

sorry this is so sad ;w;
