"We...did it." That phrase seems meaningless, such an overused phrase for us, normally recognizing success in whatever enemy we had fought against. But there was nothing to celebrate. There was nothing left. We started out with seven people, all of us eager to decipher the mystery Romeo had left us. And that turned into a disaster; who's left? The four of us. Not including those who stayed. All of beacon town is in ruins, all of those memories this heartwarming place held...gone. Gone like a mere speck of dust on a book, that you would dust off with your hand of blow off, and it would disappear into oblivion. I looked at the sorrowful faces of my allies, and looked at Petra, and there was a stoic expression settled on her face. We all stood there in a semi circle.
"Now what?" I asked quietly, and I felt Lukas's scarred hand wrap around mine, giving me a worried glance. Petra averted her gaze to me, her face morphing into a grief stricken one as the horrific memories of the past spiraled their way into her mind, and I could see the pain flicker across her bloodshot eyes.
"We rebuild."
I shifted my neck to the direction of the voice. Jack. "What other options are there?" He reasoned. I cleared my throat. "He's right." Being the so called 'leader' of the group was a heavy burden to carry on your shoulder; because no matter how broken you are, if you let people see, let your true colors shine, it's like a domino effect. I looked at the ruins of the town, small clusters of people speaking to each other, some of them helping the wounded. The edges of my vision were blurring, making it hard to focus on anything, and all lucid thoughts merged in the back of my head to mere distractions. I felt my body weight shift forward, and I felt the gravel on the floor digging into my palms as I stumbled onto the ground. I tried to force myself upwards, failing, and grimacing when Lukas grabbed my hand and tried to pull me up. Everyone was looking at me with a concerned expression, and that's when I saw the fresh blood staining the gravel. I reached up to my head, pulling it away to find the red substance coating my fingers, and the darkness forced me out of consciousness, silently giving myself permission to slip into a peaceful state of unawareness.
