And that quick, with the flick of a switch, with the press of a button. Such an impactful decision, one made unconsciously, second nature. Like seeking out water when thirst had come to a level of uncomfortableness, giving you the desire of water. One's actions, another's life. And they had just sat back, feeling no emotions whatsoever as the district had burned down to ruins. Multiply this by ten, twenty, even a hundred times and you'd have an idea of the candidates you're dealing with. Using the word 'evil' would be an understatement, the power they possessed giving them great carelessness, because 'actions have consequences' didn't apply to them.
There is no good in life, only evil.
That was one of the few lucid thoughts swimming in Jesse's head as he heard the unfortunate high pitched noise of something that could only be one thing; A bomb. The noise was a mere indication that the chaotic inducing explosive was set off. The concentration once etched onto his face had dissolved into an unreadable expression, one could only guess that it represented pure desperation. He had less than seconds to process what would be his last thoughts before there was a piercing shriek of the bomb, followed by the bomb going off.
He felt blinding agony consume his body as he was thrown ten feet backwards, debris scattered throughout the air as his body collided with a stone wall, which had collapsed moments later. The sharp scent of blood lingered, and Jesse knew how his time was extremely limited, his quality of life quality drastically decreased as soon as the ringing in his ears faded out, his vision was slightly more clear yet still murky.
What used to be his leg was a bloody stump, the fabric of his pants soaked through with crimson colored blood. More of it was dripping down his head, the warm substance spilling out of a gash on his forehead. He crawled forward, out of the pile of demolished stone, to see the triumph look of victory plastered onto Aiden's face. "Give up yet?" The tone of voice, the way they said it, burned in Jesse's ear, rage filling his body, and the fact that he couldn't do anything about it was just more infuriating. His body went limp as he stared into the blinding sun, nothing other than the small motion of the rise and fall of his chest. If he were to die, he had a message. Forcing himself upright as a last act of rebellion, the pool of blood having only increased. "You may have won this battle..." He paused, taking a small shallow breath, closing his eyes to ward off the sun.
"But we will win this war."
He felt a sense of peace as he curled up in a small ball, allowing the tendrils of death to pull him away, because he knew. He had done everything he could.
