Why am I nervous? I finger combed my messy, thick brown hair. Then walking over to my closet. Normally my outfit is the least of my worries, but this time I hand picked the same white shirt and red overalls that I used to wear when we were younger.
For a moment I just stood there, the window open but not a soul around, letting the wind cradle my naked body. I shivered, the autumn breeze being colder than I remember, throwing on my clothes. I took a good look in the mirror. For once, last night, I got enough sleep. The bags under my eyes have fairly diminished, my eyes completely devoid of that hopeless look on my face when things were indeed hopeless. I frowned, running my hand over the stubble on my chin. I don't like it, it makes me feel older than 21.
Just 3 years ago we were all together, doing crazy things, enjoying life. I head into the bathroom and shave, not bothering to clean up the mess of shaving cream, since I wasn't expecting visitors. Now heading downstairs, glancing over at the fruit basket. I contemplate taking an apple or banana or some kind of fruit to fuel the journey over to our meeting spot, but I didn't have much of an appetite. Slinging my travel bag over my shoulder, I went out, seeking the stables. The sun was just rising, rays of dawn shining down on the lake in front of my small cottage. I decided I wanted a little break from beacon town, but today I was gonna go back for a little while, and Petra and Lukas agreed to come. It's been a year since I've seen them. I saddle one of the horses at the stables, hoisting myself onto it.
Taking a good look at the sunrise before positioning the horse's reins in my hands, and we traveled through the forest. It was about an hour long ride on the horse, with taking breaks. Finally, when I saw the familiar gates of beacon town, my heart fluttered. I missed this so much. Everything about it seemed, right, and familiar. The way the leaves from the trees fell, scattered around in multicolored piles. The gravel road was unchanged, and I tied the horse up to a tree, feeding him an apple. I think it's better if I walk the rest of the way. I walked down the path, and when I reached the gates, it seemed so welcoming.
I took a deep breath, and pushed open the gates. I couldn't help but smile when I entered. Nothing really changed, it's just like I remember, except for a few new houses and a garden. There were a few shouts of joy, such as "Our leaders back!" Or "Jesse has returned!" I gave a little wave, and then I saw them. Lukas and Petra, sitting on a bench, chatting. Lukas was pretty much the same, only slightly more muscular, with the same ocelots jacket on. Petra wore the same bandana she always did, except her hair was a little longer, and she wore her vest. Typical. I just stood there, with the biggest smile on my face, and I'm thinking I must look like a dork. Then, I saw Lukas's head turn, and his fight lit up with joy. I ran over to them, wrapping my arms around them as tightly as I could. "Good to see you." Petra said, trying to pull away from the hug, but Lukas just melted right into my arms.
One thing was for sure. I was never leaving them again
