You love a sunny smiling face, you do, you know you do.
But have you ever thought the world, expects a smile from you?
You have your troubles, too, of course.
The same as everyone ;
You know that roses all have thorns
And life is not all fun.
But hide your grief behind a smile,
The world at large won't heed it ;
To wear your sorrow on your face
Is but to nurse and feed it.
Why should you to the scornful world
Your hidden griefs reveal ;
Why speak of hopes long past and gone
To those who do not feel?
A cheerful face, a pleasant smile,
May hide a troubled heart
But, oh, my friend, a pleasant smile will ease the troubles smart.
A smile is better than a frown
Its genial warmth beguiling ;
So though your heart is aching still
Keep smiling, friends, keep smiling.
