Riley's POV.
A week later.
I blink myself awake. The morning sunlight faintly peeks through my closed black curtains and into my room. I sit up and tug one of my curtains aside, looking out. I love that I get to look outside and see what mornings look like now.
I stretch a bit, then look over and see my copy of 'To Kill a Mockingbird' face down next to me, on the page where I left off. I suddenly remember I feel asleep reading it. I pick it up and continue reading.
I stand and walk out of my room, not taking my eyes off of the pages of my book. I turn the page as I walk down the stairs, getting deeper and deeper into the words on the paper. I inhale as I head towards the kitchen, smelling food. I hear voices. Some of the guys must be here too. I keep my nose in the book as I walk into the kitchen.
"What smells so good?" I ask, finally looking up.
"Food!" Ricky exclaims.
No, really? I think to myself. I look around and see that all of the guys and their girlfriends are here. Everyone is staring at me and smiling.
"Okay, this is getting creepy." I say.
"You can finally eat normal people food!" Balz says.
"So we're celebrating with fast food breakfast." Allie says.
"I had everyone bring over some kind of fattening breakfast foods from a fast food place. Most of it was probably synthetically made in a factory. You're gonna love it!" Dad says.
"Wow, you guys really went all out." I say, closing my book and setting it down.
"We take food very seriously." Ryan says.
"And its a good thing too; we need to fatten you up." Josh says.
I laugh, and I sit. We all talk and laugh; it's nice. I like feeling like I have a real family again.
"We'll definitely have to go for manicures some time. I know a place that could give you amazing talons." Ryan Ashley says, showing me her long and pointed nails.
"Woah..." I say.
"So how are you liking your book so far?" Sabrina asks.
"Ohh, I love it. I've read it like three other times in the past." I say before shoving another piece of bacon in my mouth.
"Oh. I almost forgot." My dad says standing up. He goes into the other room, then comes back with a small box, "I finally got around to it." He says, handing the box to me.
I take the box and look at it in shock, "You got me a phone?"
"You're gonna need it." Dad says, "But I wanna know your password and I'm gonna be watching your social media pages."
"I don't even know what half of that means." I say, "I mean I've practically been in solitary confinement for the last eleven years."
"We'll show you how to use it later." Kylie says.
I smile and nod. I put the box down, "Thanks." I say before I continue eating.
*
I look at myself in the mirror as I pull my hair into a side braid like Jessica taught me. I still kind of look like a skeleton with a layer of skin over it, but I'm getting better.
There's a knock on my bedroom door.
"Come in!" I call.
The door opens and Sabrina walks in, "Hey." She greets, "Some of the guys are heading out."
