Chris' POV

The next day.

Sabrina and I walk into the house, returning from Starbucks.

"You know, I'm really glad Max got along so well with us and the guys last night." Sabrina says, "It looks like she'll be around a bit more often, so it's good she got to know everyone a bit and that they got to know her."

"Yeah. And it sounds like Max comes from a pretty dysfunctional family - not that we're normal or anything, but she needs adults in her life that she can actually communicate with."

Sabrina nods, "I hope the kids at their school don't give them a hard time about being together. I mean I know people nowadays are a bit more accepting, but there's always that chance."

I'm about to respond, when my phone starts ringing. I pull it out of my pocket and look at the caller ID.

Speak of the devil and the devil will come.

"Uh oh." I state.

"What?"

"It's Riley's school calling." I say before answering it, "Hello?"

I storm into the school and put my sunglasses on top of my head, pulling my hair back and revealing my dark eyes and drawn eyebrows.

Two kids see me, then turn and walk away quickly, looking horrified.

I smile to myself. I didn't know I could still do that.

But then I remember why I'm here and immediately become pissed again.

I walk into the office and the secretary looks up. Her eyes widen when she sees me, but she immediately knows who I am. She points to the room behind her.

"She's in there."

I nod and walk into the principal's office. I see Riley's principal - also my former principal - sitting at his desk and Riley sitting in front of his desk with an ice pack on her hand.

I shut the door behind me, "What the Hell did you do?!" I ask Riley, angrily.

"Christopher Cerulli. You're just as I remember you." The man at the desk says, "I never thought I'd have to see you again after you graduated."

"Trust me, the feeling is quite mutual." I say, sitting in the chair next to the one Riley is sitting in, "What happened?"

"Riley got into a fight with another student."

"What?" I ask, genuinely shocked. Riley is not the kind of person to do that...

"What other student?" I ask.

"Emily Poncher."

I facepalm, "Riley..." I whine.

"And Riley has yet to provide an explanation as to why she did what she did." The principal states, "Riley, I hope you know you gave Emily a black eye."

"Mr. Davis, my daughter is not a violent person. There's got to be some sort of explanation for this. Right, Riley?" I ask.

She doesn't respond. She just looks down at the ice pack in her hands.

"Riley is suspended until Wednesday of next week. Riley, please return the ice pack to the nurse's office, gather your things, and we'll see you next week."

Riley nods, then stands and walks out without a word. I go after her. She gives the ice pack back, then walks out without a word.

"Riley Marie Cerulli we are not finished." I say, sternly, "Riley. Riley! You stop walking right now young lady."
