Lyndy & Jackson;
Chapter 7. By: Mike Hurley

'The Boomerang'

Lyndy?? Jack whispered her name. Suddenly she left the blizzard, wondering why Charlie took off and abandoned them. She reached out & held Jacks hand. Jackson, she said his name. Jackson, can we talk for a minute?? He shook his head yes.  Jackson, please don't blame yourself for what happened to Elsa. You did all you could for her and more. What do you mean Lyndy, ....and more??  Holding Lyndy's hand and talking with her calmed Jack, his state of panic was gone. Her hand was soft, and small in his, yet it always amazed Jack just how perceptive Lyndy was and how often she knew what was bothering him. Whenever Lyndy found Jack upset or hurting, she dropped everything and focused on him and whatever he was upset about.

Jackson, do you remember the day we first met? How could I forget?? He laughed.  Every time I tried to talk to you, I made you mad. You and Charlie ran off together & abandoned me. Why, if it had not been for my superior tracking skills, I might still be there; froze to death & eaten by vultures!!  Lyndy giggled and punched him in the chest, knocking him back against the sofa. She grabbed his ribs and tickled him, then leaned up against him and snuggled into his chest. She had always felt safe and protected by Jack, from the very first time she met him.

Lyndy began to explain her point; Jackson when you and Bill found Elsa and little Jackson on the side of the road, each of you sprang into action and helped her. You knew by experience, her baby needed to be turned in the womb, and you did it, you lined the baby up with the birth canal. Ok, Jackson, you were amazed at how strong Elsa was in her weakened state. I think you said, she poured her life into that child. Jackson; the one thing more important to Elsa than her own life was to save her baby. She was determined to give life to her child. Jackson, don't you see; you helped Elsa reach her goal. Your kindness and bravery in that very scary situation gave Elsa a way to save her baby. Honey, I am so very proud of you. Jackson, you are a giant of a man in my eyes. She put her arms around him, and squeezed tight.

Lyndy pushed her face into his chest and started to cry. Lyndy!! Jack stiffened, and wrapped his arms tight around her; he held her close. What's wrong Lyndy; please don't cry.  Jackson, whenever I remember how you and Charlie rescued me in that pine tree in the blizzard. How mean I was to you; my temper going off at you. It just amazes me how you and Charlie stayed with me. You could have shrugged your shoulders at an impetuous girl and went home. But you refused to leave me alone.  You know, if a tornado had swooped down into that blizzard and sucked me up into the sky, you would have found a way to pull me back down. Why, why do you fight so hard to rescue strangers; to bring a baby into this world?  Why Jackson?  Lyndy was quiet for several minutes. Jack felt her warm & wet tears on his chest. Jackson, I feel so very loved by you; and sometimes I have no idea why. Jack tried to calm her and continued to hold her. Lyndy listened to his heart again.

Many animals can sense an impending earthquake.  Others know when a storm is approaching.  Canadian Geese can navigate thousands of miles; day or night.

Each of the 60,000 honeybees in a hive, carries the scent of the queen on their body; a chemical pheromone. That same scent is kept on the outside of the hive, about 1 foot above the entrance, and densely covers an area the size of a dinner plate. It acts as a chemical beacon; a honeybee lighthouse, using pheromones to guide foragers home. Guards at the hive entrance check every returning forager's identity, using the queens scent on every bee like an ID card. Each returning bee is quickly checked to be certain they belong to the hive.  They and their load of pollen, nectar, water, or tree saps, are cleared to enter. Those from other hives trying to sneak in and steal food, are stopped and denied entry. Nature has many languages, for those who know how to listen.
