Lou closed the oven; her homemade lasagna just went in. Lisa was busy setting the table and making a salad. Jack was on the phone talking with Millie....,everything is set Millie! Rocking chair is in front of the fireplace. Dinner should be ready in an hour; why don't you and Jim come for dinner. Lou and Lisa are cooking for the 3rd Canadian Army!! Ok, well another time then!! I would love that, perfect. Ok then!! You take care Millie, and telll Jim I said hi!! Ok!!
Lisa slipped her arm around her husbands waist. Jack, thank you for asking them!! I know memories sometimes linger. Jack was silent. Jack, honey, I would really like to spend more time with Millie and Jim. They are a delightful couple. You have me now Jack, we can be new friends with old friends. She stood behind him, and drew Jack close to her. She just held him.
Beneath all the external gruff and stoic layers of Jack Bartlett was a very sensitive man with a gentle and tender heart. Lisa was a very wise woman; she knew Lyndy was still in Jacks heart. Lisa valued the memories Jack carried. She appreciated Lyndy for the amazing woman she was. The Jack Bartlett she married a few years ago was a better man because of Lyndy Bartlett. Lisa would always be in Lyndy's debt. The door opened and Amy walked in. Immediately Lou could tell something was wrong. Amy walked over and picked up the photo of her mum, sitting on top of Sugarfoot. They were the two who helped her return to Ty. Her mum knew Ty would grow up and become a good man. Amy wished her mum could talk to her and tell her everything would be ok. Jack motioned to Lisa and Lou that he would handle this. He walked over and stood next to Amy. That's my favorite photo of your mum when she was little. Did know Sugarfoot was actually a little character?? No grandpa I did not. Grandpa?? Yes Amy. My mum died and left me and now Ty is leaving to go on some rescue mission through a forest fire. Grandpa I'm so scared I will never see him again. Oh Honey!! Jack laid his hand on her shoulder. Where is Ty going?? He's joining some firemen to rescue horses and people in northwest Alberta. They need a vet to go with them, to assess and treat any injured horses. They'll be driving through a forest fire; Grandpa, who in their right mind drives a hundred kilometers through a forest fire??
Amy kept looking at the photo of her mum; When we were in Mongolia I was terrified Ty was gone for good. I was so scared I would never see him again!! Maybe I still carry these emotions from when Ty & I broke up after I came back from Europe. He said we were on a break, but from my perspective, it was a break up. Amy paused, wiped a tear from her eye, and looked up at her grandfather. Grandpa, does Ty have any idea how much I love him?? When you were newly married, and my mum was a baby; was Grandma Lyndy crazy in love with you, like I am with Ty? Yes she was Amy, I was the first man Lyndy ever kissed, loved, and wanted to marry. She treated me like a king. Jack closed his eyes like he was walking back through time for a few moments. Amy, till Lyndy's dying breath, her eyes would light up when I entered the room. I never did understand that; I mean, I'm just a man. Amy looked up at Jack, and softly said: yes, but you were her man Grandpa!! Just like Ty is mine. He loves me so much; he treats me like a princess Grandpa!! I know Amy. I could see in his eyes from the first few weeks Ty was here; it was very obvious how much he loved you Amy.
Grandpa, do you remember when you bailed Ty out of jail, he & I were trying to get Spartan back from Wes. I remember that all too well Amy; you two almost gave me a heart attack!Well Ty was pretty street smart & it took him 5 seconds to spot my bag with bolt cutters, flashlight, & stuff to break Spartan out of that holding barn. Ty got really mad at me for planning that. Grandpa I had never seen him so upset!! He insisted I stop my plans; he said if I was caught I would go to jail for 5 years as a felon. Well, I never told you the full story; but I stood up to Ty, and refused!! I flat refused & got in his face and told him Spartan was mine and I was getting him back. I was as adamant as Ty was. I guess he figured out nothing he said would change my mind. Yup, sounds just like a female!! Jack said with a grin. Well he offered to help me; I told him we would leave at 9:30. So at about 9:15 I saw Ty leave with the little horse trailer. Grandpa, he left without me, to prevent me from getting caught. We had broken up that year, he was still seeing Kit, and he drives off.......to protect me!! Later that night after you brought him home, I apologized to Ty; we still had feelings for each other, & I was so scared he actually might leave for jail. I tried to explain how stupid I had been, that he was right, and I felt so bad for getting him into trouble. I wanted to run to Ty and cry in his arms for my stupidly. Do you know what he told me?? Jack was listening intently; he had been scared for Ty and Amy too, being sent off to jail for years. No what did he say, Jack asked. Amy paused for a few moments, wiped another tear away and said: Ty said he would do it again in a second;.......and that he would do anything for me!! Grandpa, Ty was so serious; he would do anything for me. So, that's why I am terrified of losing him Grandpa!! In a million years I would never find a man who loves me like Ty!! Not in a million years!!
