Chapter 10-25; part 2 of 2
By; mike hurley

After a little while, Simone returned to the back of her stall and sniffed and licked the red sweatshirt Amy had left on the floor for her. Simone lied down, and rolled her back on the sweatshirt, trying to get Amy's scent on her. Next she nuzzled her face into it. For the first time in many years, Simone had someone who loved her.  She laid her head on the red sweatshirt, she smelled Amy's scent and fell sound asleep. Simone was happy!!

Chapter begins.....

Several nights before Amy parachuted in near the Wilson Ranch, Ghost stood like a statue in the middle of a forest path. About 2 miles from the Ranch @ 1:00 A.M.  It was very close to pitch dark, clouds hid the moon & stars. A pack of Coyotes rounded the path and saw him. He was huge, white with black spots, his mane fluttered a little in the wind. But his eyes freaked them out, they glowed a bright blue, and illuminated the path. They stopped 100 feet away and starred, the blue light was not from this world. Ghost didn't need light to see; he was well aware of their large number, their teeth, claws, and aggressive attitude. Yet, he stood perfectly still, and fearless.

The pack was led by a young, cocky & inexperienced male. He tried to pick up Ghosts scent but there was none. The leader was hungry and two of his lieutenants had been challenging his authority, all week. There was no room for indecision. Suddenly he raced toward Ghost with teeth glaring. Ghost stood still as a statue. The leader prepared to pounce onto the horse, but Ghost reared up and pounded his front hooves unto the leaders skull and that of his first lieutenants, killing them instantly, he reared up again and killed two more, then kicked 3 into tree trunks, killing them. Now with no leader or Lieutenants, the remaining coyotes fled to avoid the blue glowing horse. In seconds they were gone. Ghost stepped over the dead coyotes and was back in Illinois in under a minute.

Ghost had seen how Ty loved his wife. Wolverine spoke very highly of her; she had saved his life inside a Carpet House. Ghost never forgot a kindness, he still watched over Ty; he recently added Amy to his list. He could tell, Ty would be devastated if anything ever happened to her. Ghost would do anything for Amy.

The next day, the remaining coyotes, all young and mostly females traveled 10 miles north and made a truce with a neighboring pack. They needed to join a pack with strong leaders. Some of the females were in heat and soon were mated. The combined pact now numbered 18, and was led by the brother of the cocky young leader who Ghost killed. The brother decided he would formulate a plan to get the blue eyed creature out of their area. Tonight they would travel south by the big house.

One of the horse caretakers named Jerry, took Dr Ty from stall to stall and introduced him to each horse, then Ty looked up vaccination and general health records as they went. They were looking at an old mare named Hillsdale and checking out her nearly blind eyes when Ty felt his phone vibrating; it was Amy. He apologized to Jerry and stepped away for a moment to take the call. He answered and stiffened up when he heard her voice, within 3 words, he knew Amy was upset.........

But, he also heard a new calmness in her voice. He had noticed something different about Amy since the river. Ty wondered if Amy's parachute training had instilled a new confidence in her. He still could not get his mind around Amy parachuting, it was her only phobia & she used to be terrified of them. As Amy spoke, Ty thoughts ran in the recesses of his mind. He wondered if it really was true; Amy was more scared about losing him than parachuting.

.........Amy told Ty where she was and asked for help. She sent a selfie of the 5 of them huddled together under the tree. Ty knew Amy loved animals and they were attracted to her like magnets, he wasn't surprised at the situation. Next she crawled outside and took 2 photos of the trail, meadow and Blue Spruce they were under. She hung her baseball cap on a low branch right over the trail.  Ty put the call on speakerphone & introduced Jerry to Amy and filled him in on Amy's situation. Amy went on to describe what Kingsley and Kearney were doing to protect the group. Jerry spoke up and advised Amy that those two dogs knew what they were doing and were good at it. He felt there was a good chance the coyotes would hear and smell the Great Pyrenees dogs and steer clear. But Ty could see the concern on Jerry's face.
