Chapter 10;  part-1
By: Mike Hurley

'He sang her a melodious song'

Ty had finished his follow-up calls; Amy was driving the old GMC, taking them to the Millar Ranch. This was a rare full day of Amy Fleming, and Dr Ty Borden working together.  That was their dream, from years ago when Ty first suggested they become partners. Amy had always been excited about their dream, from the moment Ty suggested it. The two partners brought a plethora of knowledge and experience to any ranch or farm they visited.

They also shared a deep respect and love for each other, which was quite apparent whenever the young couple arrived at a customers place.  They also complimented each other well at a professional level.  Amy had general and detailed knowledge of most of the diseases Dr Ty treated.  She understood 95% of the medicines and herbs he prescribed. She could administer IV's, give injections and help Ty with many other procedures.

Ty appreciated just how skillful Amy was at calming and helping animals realize the couple were there to help them. Ty marveled at the depth of communication Amy had with animals. Nothing he had seen in Vet school came even close to the skills Amy brought along on their days working together.  Amy was so proud of her Dr Ty, all he had accomplished, his commitment to excellent care and love he provided every patient.  People like being around Ty, he is friendly, caring, and easy to talk to.

Amy's thoughts returned to the Costco parking lot, and the brief meeting years ago, Ty told her about.  She loved Ty so much; she was spellbound thinking of her mother meeting Ty only for a few minutes and being able to ascertain his intelligence and character.  She wished her mum could see Ty now.  Amy was so incredibly proud of him, she wanted her mom to see what an amazing husband and father Ty is.  She wanted her mum to hear people in Hudson, when they called him Dr Ty. Amy wanted her mum to see Ty carry her up the stairs of the loft. Amy loved it when Ty picked her up and carried her. She wished her mum could of heard Ty say:  "Amy I would do anything for you".  Those words were the sweetest words Amy had ever heard. She wanted her mum to watch Ty preform surgery.  But most of all she wanted her mum to see Ty holding Lyndy and the huge smile he wore when he was with his little girl.  Amy had no idea her mother was such a good judge of character. Amy admired & respected her mother's work with horses. But had never realized her mum could apply those similar perceptive gifts to people.  Then there was the Judge, who trusted her mother's skills with people, unconditionally. Amy never thought of her mum applying her perceptive gifts with people; that whole concept simply baffled her. She was young when her mum died, and never remembered seeing her use those skills with people. Amy wondered if the pain of her parents break up caused her to bury those memories of her mum.  Amy also wondered, if her mother had such exceptional skills with understanding people; why did she marry her father. Amy deeply loved her dad, but knew he was often difficult.

Amy glanced over at Ty & saw be was staring out the windshield again.  She figured his mind was back at the Costco parking lot too. She knew Ty had a childhood of rough experiences and few people who really loved him. Clint was an employee of the Province, most would consider him a paper pusher, statistics analyzer; someone who kept people neatly filed away in a computer app. Amy really did not know much about Clint; but she did feel he showed genuine love and concern for Ty. In Amy's mind, Clint was part of Ty's family; the only positive influence Ty ever had, before Heartland. Amy had the utmost respect for Clint, and loved him like he was, in a surreal way, Ty's uncle. Amy was speechless when Ty described how aggressively Clint talked with the judge about him. That really surprised her that a government employee would care that deeply for someone as messed up as Ty had been.  Amy admired Clint for his Masters degree in Social Services, and his commitment to serve his community.  She wondered if anyone in her family had ever been committed to volunteering in their community. Amy decided she wanted to include Clint in some family functions. Clint was as relentless with helping young people, as she is with helping horses. Amy realized she and Clint had something in common. He was sort of family, so maybe they would invite Clint to Lyndy's next birthday party.
