Lyndy & Jackson
Chapter 10-3
By; mike hurley
During the last weeks of Lyndy's life, Jack was torn with sadness, and despair filled his heart.
He put on a strong front for Lyndy. He hid the worst of his pain and the heaviest of his tears. But Lyndy knew Jacks heart almost as well as she knew her own. It was the gift her father passed on to her. She could see Jacks hidden tears and hear his crying heart. Her father taught Lyndy how to look into another's eyes, and listen to their heart, past the muscular beating and movement of the valves. To look through the eye and into its deepest parts. Lyndy, there you will find the core of a creature, where kindness and love reside and have their roots buried deep into the mind of our Creator. Her father taught her to perceive the emotions of another being; human or animal. He told her it was a language she could learn. A language similar to what birds and many animals understood before an earthquake hit. It was the language honeybees understood as they could sense hours before, a storm would arrive. Ample warning was given the thousands of foragers to head home to the shelter of the queen and their hive. It was a language as old as the universe.Lyndy always took care of her family........
The last couple weeks of Lyndy's life, Millie was there, every day. Jim came often too. Millie was Lyndy's best friend, she would do what best friends do; be there. Many of those days, few words were spoken. But Lyndy loved her friend Millie for just being there; ready to hold her hand, get some water, or bring a smile to a friend she had walked decades with through life. One day Lyndy asked Millie a special favor. Millie could still hear Lyndy's voice in her mind.......... Millie, someday when Amy is grown and has a family of her own, would you reach out to her and be a grandmother to her, her husband and her children. Would you take my place and love Amy, and her family like Grandma Lois loved Jackson, myself and Marion. Millie, would you be a Grandma Lois to Amy, please??
Lyndy, you are my dearest friend; I love you. Millie kissed Lyndy on her cheek and held her friends fading hand. Of course I will be a grandmother to Amy!!
As Amy followed Millie into the den, she was actually following her grandmother. A new grandmother sent from her real grandmother years ago. Millie would become the same friend to Amy that she had been to Lyndy. Millie was amazed at how similar Amy was to Lyndy.
You know Amy, I have a favorite quilt I want to show you; would you come into our bedroom a moment. It's in my cedar chest.
Amy followed Millie into Jim & Millie's bedroom. They went through a hallway on the opposite side of the great room. All down the hall hung photos of dogs. Millie, who are all these dogs, Amy asked. Oh they are the many dogs that belonged to Jim and I. For many years we kept about 6. Do you and Jim have children? No, we tried for many years to have kids of our own; I suppose today modern science could have helped us. But back then their were mainly old wives tales and such, that didn't work for us. These dogs were our kids; our family. Many were strays who found their way to us.
Each little face has a story to tell, said Amy. There is a lot of love on that wall. Just then Tiffany & Ginger came running through the great room towards them. So much for the girls spending the morning with Jim and Ty, Millie laughed. Do you girls have clean paws?? Millie asked the 2 collies. Show me your paws, show me your paws!! Millie told the girls. Suddenly, both dogs rolled over onto their backs and held their paws up into the air, for Millie to inspect. Ok, very nice girls. Thank you for not bringing in dirt!! Ok, on your feet!! Both Tiffany & Ginger rolled over and back onto their feet. What good dogs!! Amy said. Do you and Ty have a dog? Millie asked. No, and I really would like one. Remi is sort of everyone's dog at the ranch. But I would like us to get a dog soon, for Lyndy to interact with, and company for Remi. In many ways, having 2 or more dogs is easier than just one, and I think they are more emotionally stable having a friend with them all the time. Said Millie.
