"I'm coming!" I yelled when the doorbell rang for the second time. Someone seemed a little impatient. The bell rang when I was still in my pajamas so I quickly threw on the first dress I came across. I really hoped I wasn't wearing the thing backwards.
It had happened to me once when I overslept so I went to school wearing a shirt backwards. It was extremely awkward since I hadn't noticed and someone pointed it out near the end of the day.
When I opened the door someone literally threw a paper against my face and I instinctively made drowning noises because obviously my brain figured I was clumsy enough to be able to actually drown because of a piece of paper.
"This is your new job!" Grace exclaimed while I was getting the piece of paper that had fell on the ground.
"Hi Grace." I told her, feeling overwhelmed. I wasn't prepared for her usual burst of energy yet.
"Come in, I'll make some coffee." I took a step to my right so she could come in. Her hair was in a tight bun and she was holding a gym bag. I'd learned Grace was a gymnast and apparently she was pretty good at it too.
"Oh, I already had my caffeine for today. Check the piece of paper first!" She said while following me to the kitchen.
"The coffee's for me." I yawned. I hadn't slept well last night so I was feeling extra slow today.
"You do look tired. Cute dress by the way." She told me.
"Thanks." I said and sat down while the coffee was being made. "You said something about a job?" I'd told Grace I was looking for one and she'd promised to keep an eye out for a job.
"Read it! It's awesome!" She said with an enthusiasm that made me really curious.
"Alright." I said.
We're looking for a motivated student for Cotton Mania! We look forward to welcoming you to our team.
"A cotton candy stand?" I asked absentmindedly while looking at the contact information. Cotton Mania was this company that owned a lot of cotton candy stands. Usually you could find them in a mall but they also did kid's parties.
"Isn't that cool!" Grace exclaimed. "And it's not just cotton candy though, it's all kinds of candy."
I had the feeling she knew what she was talking about.
"You seem like a fan." I chuckled and grabbed a mug so I could fill it with coffee.
"I'm a satisfied customer. If I had more time, I'd apply for it myself." She told me.
"I don't know if I could make cotton candy though. I'm not the most coordinated person." I said hesitantly.
"They'll teach you. And the hours are perfect." Grace was really trying to sell this idea to me and I actually liked it better than working at a grocery store.
"Fine, I'll give them a call." I said.
"Why aren't you happy about this?" Grace reprimanded me.
"I don't want to get my hopes up in case I don't get it." I admitted.
"Please, you'll so get it. You just have to be fast." Grace reassured me. "Anyway, I should get to training."
"You're already leaving?" I told her, feeling a little deflated.
"Yeah, I couldn't wait to give the application to you." She grinned. "I'll come back later tonight!"
"Okay, thanks Grace." I told her but she was already halfway through the door.
