As soon as Carlos yelled my name, I started running as fast as I could towards him. Listening to his running footsteps, then I focus more and hear wing beats, many of them and heavy, forceful pairs of footprints also.

Then something inside me made me more tense and alert, like my body knew what it was but I didn't. that's when I felt it, the temperature sky rocketed. I could barely breathe, it was so hot, then I saw smoke appearing ahead of me.

Fire.

I felt my hands heat up and burn, but not painfully. I looked at my hands and saw them, they were glowing orange, its so bright that it looks like fire is just under the last layer of my skin. trying to break through but just can't. I fold them into fists and squeeze hard, closing my eyes tight.

"Tiki!" I open my eyes to see Carlos running, terrified towards me. He doesn't stop running and just grabs my hand and whips me around, me almost falling on the dirt.

"What are you doing?! RUN!" I pick up my pace and run next to him.

"What's going on?" I ask between breaths. he shakes his head and asks, "Is there a opening nearby?"

"Yeah, why?" I ask him, since its a weird question in the situation we are in now. Actually I have no idea why Carlos is so scared of a fire, I mean he is fireproof. I turn my head and find fiery lizards crawling out of the rapid fire following us. I look around and see everything is burning or already burnt to the crisp. with no chance of life again. Then I look up...

Firebirds.

They do exist, a ton of them actually. They make the sky look like its on fire. Raging fire. Some try to swoop down but the tree are too thick for their bodies. The Fire lizards have to light the fire first. So as long as we stay ahead of the lizards we are good until we make it to the portal. Or actually any portal will do for now. I face forward again and grab Carlos' hand. I can feel him wanted to let go because my hand is burning his. But I can't right now, I grip harder and run faster.

Carlos POV

When Tiki grabbed my hand and started running faster I wanted to let go immediately. Her hand was on fire, well not literally but it felt like it. Hotter then the fire I breathe. she knew I was thinking that because then she gripped harder and pushed our legs to go faster. I don't what is going on inside her head right now, but I bet it isn't good whatever she figured out.

"Are we getting closer to the open area?" I ask again but she just side glances me and tugs on my hand more. It felt like we have been running for years but in reality only minutes. I turn my head slightly and stop in my tracks when she almost missed the open area.

"Tiki wait its right here!" I yell for her to come back but when she turned around her eyes widen and I was already in the center. I could the fire and screeching of the Firebirds in the distance and I can tell we didn't have much time. Tiki raced in front of me and tried to drag me away again.

Wait did she know? That we were about to miss the opening? Of course she did she knew where it was stupid.

"Tiki, why were you trying to skip here?" I ask with clear anger in my voice. She just growls lowly at me.

My anger flames up, "Tiki I'm trying to help us get out of here!" I yell at her.

She looks up at me in the eyes and I watch as her eyes change color to fiery orange. Completely Orange actually, no white in sight. I step back in fear but recompose myself until she speaks.

"The Firebirds can't reach us if we stay under the cover of the trees and ahead of the Flame lizards." she says calmly, too calm.

"Well, if we kill all the Firebirds then we can get out of here quicker." I try to reason with her, because if she shifts and I shift then together I know we can take all of them down. We are both strong enough. That was a bad move because I swear I see smoke leaking out of her eyes in a smoky haze. Scary.

"Okay T, calm down please." I causiously put my hands on her shoulders and told her to calm down again. It's weird because my dragon wanted to calm whatever state she was just in. Like it was his duty to do so. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath in and out and opened to see beautiful gray ones.

"How about this, I can kill the Firebirds while you kill the Flame lizards on the ground? Or do you want it the other way around?" I suggested.

"No I can stay down here I guess, its no good to run and hide." She sighed but turned around, cracking her neck and knuckles and rolling her shoulders. I watched as her back showed her shoulder blades being shifted and saw two matching scars. One on each shoulder blade, perfectly parallel from each other. Something made me want to touch them but before I could she turned towards me.

*Screech*

"We looked up at the sky and saw a few Firebirds dive towards us. I quickly shifted into my giant green dragon, Zayrrerth. Zayrreth means Champion of the Green but I call him Zay. He hates when I call him that because he thinks that it is girly. He prefers Zayr, that what everyone else calls him- well used to know him.

Zay lifted his big head up towards the Firebirds coming down and breathed hot fire. Pushing them back but not killing them. Looks like this is going to be harder then I thought.
