Selfish (Camren)

Part 9

Camila paused before entering the compound. She examined all the people entering the party. Humans that know about that supernatural world, vampires, werewolves, even witches all made their way into the compound. It must've been a big and important party if everyone was able to come together in peace.

She sauntered into the party, impressed with all the decor and entertainment. Normani greeted her with a hug and they exchanged a few words before she had to go back and tend to her pack.

Camila tucked her straightened hair behind her ear, feeling a bit out of place at this big party. "You look beautiful." Raven approached her, a small smile tugging on her lips.

Camila felt herself blush, looking down at the floor to hide it. "Thank you." Camila said in an embarrassed tone peering back up at Raven.

The vampire grinned at the flustered witch, finding it adorable. "Are you enjoying the party so far?" Raven asked her and Camila nodded, she was actually very impressed that they were able to pull this off.

A fight between some wolf and vampire cut their conversation short and Raven politely excused herself to sort out the problem.

Camila decided that she could definitely use a drink and made her way to the mini bar. When she retrieved her drink she stood by herself, watching other people at the party converse and have fun.

That's when she saw a particular vampire staring at her. Lauren's familiar eyes pierced into her own from across the room. Camila's breath hitched at the intense gaze, feeling vulnerable under the hybrid's eyes.

A few people then stepped in front of Camila, blocking her view from the mysterious hybrid. When the people continued walking, Lauren was nowhere to seen.

The witch scanned that entire room, in search of the hybrid. "Looking for someone." She felt a breath against her ear, which caused her jump in surprise.

"Holy shit, don't do that!" Camila gasped, placing her hand over her heart. Lauren's eyes playfully twinkled at Camila's reaction.

"What are you doing standing all alone, pretty witch?" Lauren inquired a bit puzzled, she would expect someone like Camila to have a lot of friends.

"Oh uh, I'm not really liked amongst the witches." Camila laughed it off, but Lauren could tell that it bothered her.

"And you having killed Alison made them not like me even more."

The hybrid felt guilt wash over her, she didn't mean for that to have an impact on Camila.

"You must have at least one friend amongst the witches." Lauren stated but Camila sadly shook her head

"Does my aunt and baby cousin count?" Camila chuckled, staring at the hybrid. Lauren didn't know what to say and she could clearly tell that the witch was going through a lot, but she hid it by acting happy.

"I'd like to call Lauren, Raven and Dinah to come and join me for a moment." Colton summoned the three vampires through a microphone. Lauren gave the witch an apologetic look, as she made her way to the platform where Colton was standing.

"I'd like to welcome back these three woman that once lived here a long time ago. I'm sure your visit here will be pleasant." Colton said to the three girls besides him and to the crowd.

The crowd cheered, many of them being fake.

Lauren then stepped forward, taking the mic from Colton's hands and making an announcement herself.

Dinah and Raven gave each other a knowing look, preparing themselves for whatever Lauren had to say.

"Thank you for the welcome, Colton. As you all know, my family lived here many many years ago until they were sadly killed. Coming back to this town was hard but I now see what my father loved so much about it. So the next generation vampires will be permanently staying in New Orleans."

The crowd started murmuring at the end of the speech, some happy and others not so much. Colton was also surprised, as well as Raven and Dinah.

Lauren walked off the platform with Raven and Dinah following closely behind her.

"What the hell was that?" Raven asked.

"What was what?"

"We never agreed on staying here." Raven spat, angry at Lauren for the announcement.

"Yeah, there is no way I'm staying here. I'm travelling remember?" Dinah spoke up, and Lauren rolled her eyes at their complaints.

"Just think about it. Aren't you tired of moving from place to place, not having a home? We've been on the move for so long and it's getting boring. This place is perfect for us to settle in. We all came from here. This was our first home." Lauren explained and the idea didn't start to sound so bad to Raven and Dinah.

"You can still travel Dinah, but now you will know that you have a home to come back to. And Raven, I hope you decide to stay with me here and build a home." Both girls looked at each other. Silently agreeing on Lauren's plan.

"Okay."

Lauren grinned at her two best friends, knowing that they're going to have a lot of fun during their stay here.

But then Lauren smelled something foul in the air. She turned around to scan the party for anything that seemed suspicious. She saw three men marching towards something and her eyes trailed to Camila who was talking to Normani.

"Raven, Dinah." Lauren alerted the two vampires of the men.

Her eyes widened when one of the guys held up a gun, pointing it towards Camila. Lauren quickly ran over to the witch, shielding her from that attack.

The hybrid felt bullets pierce through her back and she hissed at the feeling. The gun shot made everyone start screaming in panic as the all tried to rush out the door.

Dinah went to alert Colton about the three men and he sent his vampires out to find them.

"Take her to the farm house." Lauren told Raven.

Camila on the other hand, didn't know what was going on. She only knew that Lauren took a bullet for her, well a couple of bullets

She allowed Raven to take her to another location while Lauren stayed behind.

The hybrid went on a hunt for the three men, following the foul sent. She caught up with one that tried to escape through a back alley.

"Where do you think you're going?" Lauren hissed, her canines extending in preparation to kill the man.
