The sound of my phone going off the next day is what woke me and I couldn't help but smile at the hunk of male that was on my phone. "Hey, Noah." "Hey, Shelly how are you doing this morning?" "Ok, just worried about Lee." "Yeah, I bet so how is he holding up?" "He cried himself to sleep last night. Lee really thought she was the one. Noah, he planned on asking her to marry him. He rehearsed his speech to ask her father for her hand in marriage with me." "Shit, that is why he asked if guys still ask for their girl's hands in marriage before proposing." "Yep, I take it you told him yes." "Actually I told him nowadays not many guys ask the father permission to propose but that a true gentleman will ask for his girl's hand so the parents know he is serious." "Good, I am just glad I told him to wait to buy the ring till he had permission to propose." "Yeah, that would have sucked him buying the ring and her leaving like this." "Yep, I hate the fact that her family jumped the gun instead of asking her what was really going on." "Yeah, it makes me wonder if maybe there is more than what Rachel either knows or is really saying." "Hopefully not but I doubt we will ever know." "Shelly, are you awake." "Go Shelly baby take care of my little bro. I love you." "Love you too Noah."
I get up and head to the door open it and pull Lee into a hug. "How are you doing?" "OK, Shelly may we please go and spend some time together." "Yes, Twin, let me get dressed." He just nods and we head to his room so I could grab some clothes from his room. After I was finished getting ready I meet him downstairs so we could head out and help him forget what has happened. We ended up at the boardwalk and walked into the arcade and sat down ordered some food and just talked about what we were expecting our senior year. I of course tried to avoid the topic of the carnival since I didn't want him to deal with a reminder of Rachel. While we were sitting there I noticed someone watching us and keeping their face covered. I looked at Lee "dude we are being watched." Lee turned and looked over his shoulder and shrugged his shoulder "let them watch. It is not like we are doing anything bad." We talked about a lot of different things and it was during this time Lee brought up something I hoped he had forgotten. "I guess it is a good thing you convinced me not to buy the ring until I asked for her hand. I now know why Mr. Rogers never wanted to talk to me. He kept coming up with excuses as to why he couldn't make time to talk to me." "Lee stop please." "Shells why? I don't understand how she didn't know what was going on and if she did why didn't she just tell me, instead of going on vacation with us. That is a big step in a relationship." "I know Lee. I don't understand it all myself." "Shells, what would you do if Noah proposed?" "Lee, let's not talk about that right now." "Look, if you are worried about me I am fine if you and Noah get married. Shell's he has proved that he loves you. The more I think about it we never saw any girl leave his room doing the walk of shame after parties or him not come home after one. Hell, I remember how he would even remind us when to leave and show up home shortly after us." "True, I hate the fact all those girls made their encounters with him more than they really were." "So, if he were to ask you would you say yes, or are you not ready?" "Lee, I don't know. I love him and when I think about our future I do imagine me and him getting married."
"Can you imagine what Mary would say if you two were to get married?" I smile "I know my dad told me she used to tell him it was always going to be Noah and me ending up together." "Yeah, mom and dad told me the same thing." "Lee, you know I still get scared when someone knocks on our door when dad is not home." "Yeah, I know Shelly that night was the worst night for all of us." "The idea I would have to deal with a cop telling me dad is gone after hearing the same thing about mom." "I know Shelly that was a dark day for all our family. I think that is why Noah hates it when he sees us drinking and why he doesn't drink himself." "Yeah, the idea that we lost my mom to a drunk driver." "Yeah, Noah made sure to remind me before he left that if we both are too drunk to drive to call and have someone pick us up. He made me promise that I would not drive or let you drive with anyone that had been drinking because you were too important to him. Hell, he even said he would prefer it if we didn't go out to parties and just had them at my house." Chuckling "he would say that." "Look let's go that person is really starting to freak me out."
