S2E39: Know Thy Enemy

Holly's POV

I go downstairs and see Elijah's daggered body, his clothes burned. "Damon was trying to find a way to kill him and retrieve the dagger" Katherine states.

"Only way he can do that is with a white oak stake, but originals made sure that tree burned" I state. "Isobel arrived last night" I tell her.

"Well then, we have to pay her a visit later" she state smiling. I agree and we go upstairs. To find Stefan and Damon discussing Isobel. "I don't think that you should tell her that I'm here" she tells them.

"What? Why?" Stefan asks her.

"It's better if she and John not know that I stayed in town after I got out of the tomb" Katherine explains.

"She has a point" I tell them. "Besides, if you two ever need her to swap places with Elena again, the less people know that she's here, the better" I state.

"Tell you what. Why don't you, uh...Call Alaric and let him know that his wife just showed up on his girlfriend's doorstep" Stefan tells Damon before leaving. Damon calls Alaric then leaves Katherine and I alone. We decide to go see Isobel.

When we arrive she rushes over to us and pushes Katherine against the wall. Katherine pushes her against a wall by her throat. "Nice house" we tell her as Katherine lets her go.

"Nicest foreclosure in town" Isobel says smiling. "Come here" she says and we have a group hug. "It's good to see you both" she states.

"It's good to have the gang together again" I say.

"I hear you've been busy" Katherine says as we pull away and sit on the couch.

"Yes, I have. I've been busy making a deal with Klaus to save your life. Holly helped" Isobel tells her.

"Not an easy task" I tell Katherine. "So what are we drinking?" I ask Isobel. Isobel gives the bottle of wine to me and grabs three big wine glasses.

"Here. A vintner I knew in Avignon" she states. I pull out the cork with my fingers, put a finger in it and tastes it. Katherine does the same.

"He's tasty" we tell her. I pour us each a glass. "So what was with the surprise visit to the Gilbert house?" Katherine asks Isobel.

"John told me Rick was dating auntie vanilla. I got jealous" Isobel tells her.

"You have obviously got John wrapped around your finger if he invited you in the house" Katherine says smirking.

"He thinks I'm helping him protect Elena, so he's been very useful in keeping me informed on everything that's been going on" Isobel states.

"Especially as the Scooby gang doesn't fully trust me as I'm sired by Elijah" I add.

"So tell me what you know" Katherine instructs.

"You were right. I couldn't get anywhere near Klaus, but I found my way to someone in his trusted circle. One of his witches" Isobel explains.

"Klaus and his witches" I say rolling my eyes.

"He said that Klaus is willing to grant you your freedom if we deliver the moonstone and the doppelgänger" Isobel tells Katherine.

"I can get the moonstone" Katherine assures her.

"You know Katherine, you'd be betraying your Salvatore boys again" I remind her.

"I was more than willing to play it their way if I had to, but they're floundering. Their witch has lost her powers, and they've used their only weapon to kill Elijah. If I stick with them, I'm dead. You both showing up changes everything" Katherine tells us.

"Well I have other things to do, you to have fun getting Elena and the moonstone" I tell the pair. I finish my glass of blood and leave the house. I'm heading for the Grill and Isobel joins me.

"I want to apologize to Ric before you take him" she tells me.

"Of course, I'm sorry for what you have to do" I tell her.

"It's my own fault, besides better me then you" she tells me.

"There he is, go talk to him" I say as we see him heading for his car. She smiles and goes over as I listen in.

"Hi Ric" she says gently.

"Isobel. What do you want?" he asks her.

"Just cleaning up some loose ends" she tells him.

"Yeah, we don't have any loose ends" he tells her.

"You may not. I do. I need to apologize to you" Isobel tells him.

"It's a little late for that" he retorts.

"No, not for what I've done in the past. We're beyond that. Although I am sorry for outing you to your girlfriend. That was petty of me" she explains.

"Look, whatever jacked-up vampire amends that you're trying to make with me right now, I'm not interested" he tells her as he unlocks his car.

"Of course not, because I compelled you to let me go. I realize that I don't wanna do what I have to do without you knowing how much I loved you and I did. I loved you so much. He's all yours" she tells me. I knock him out, but don't kill him.

"I'm sorry Isobel" I tell her gently.

"I have to go get Elena" she tells me. I hug her tightly.

"You were a great friend, Katherine and I will miss you" I tell her.

"Please make sure Klaus doesn't kill her" she says hugging me just as tight. "Goodbye bye" she says pulling away and leaves. I put Alaric into the trunk and drive to his apartment. I give Klaus the address and take Alaric inside.

I sit down on the couch as Alaric lays on the floor. Happy I'd compelled him weeks ago to invite me in. I soon get a call from Stefan. "How can I help you?" I ask him, already knowing what's wrong.

"Elena's missing, Isobel has her. Do you know where she is?" he asks me.

"Nope, ask Damon" I tell him and hang up. Soon there's a knock at the door. I let in Klaus' warlock who has an unconscious Katherine. He dumps her on the floor and has me put Alaric in a chair. I then sit on the couch as he chants his hands either side of Alaric's head.

"Somno Ritum Per Dax Ritum, Somno Ritum Per Dax Ritum,Somno Ritum Per Dax Ritum" Maddox chants. Katherine wakes up and looks around the room. Alaric's eyes open and he gets up. The warlock bends down in a bow as Katherine gets up slowly. Alaric turns around and looks as Katherine.

"Alaric?" she says confused. A smile crosses Alaric's face. She rushes over to the door but an invisible force prevents her from exiting. Alaric slowly walks over to her and speaks in a Slavic accent.

"Zdravei, Katerina" he says in Bulgarian as he takes her face in his hands. (English translation: Hello Katerina). "I have missed you" he states.

"Klaus" she says in shock and fear. Klaus smiles widely at her and looks at me.

"You did well Holly" he tells me. I remain silent. "You can't be mad forever" he tells me. "Now I need to know everything about this man's life" he states.

"He's name is Alaric Saltzman. He is a history teacher at Mystic Falls High School and a vampire hunter" I tell him. Katherine and I spend the next few hours telling him about Alaric's life before Mystic Falls. And his roll in the Scooby gang and how he's on the outs with his girlfriend Jenna.
