Ch. 49

Demi POV

So Damon became a big brother on March 31, but I was letting the babies get settled in with Chloe & Joe before I took him to meet his little sisters. Joe agreed it was a good idea & we both speculated that Damon might be a little jealous, so we were easing him into this big brother thing slowly.

I felt bad for Nick because Joe wasn't forgiving him, too easily. I know Nick felt horrible & he was taking his brother being mad at him harder than he let on. He wasn't fooling me, though. I could read him pretty well now. I knew Nick was upset. I could tell by the way he looked when he went out to the car, barely glancing at his new nieces that he had only laid eyes on for a few minutes. Joe stomped off to his room when Chloe & I tried to persuade Joe to forgive Nick. I sighed when we heard the door slam.

"He'll be fine." Chloe waved her hand in the direction of the steps. "I'll talk to him tonight. When do you think you'll want to introduce the girls to their big brother?" She asked.

I was watching one of the babies, Serenity I think, when I answered in a soft voice, "I don't know. Maybe we can come over tomorrow night."

"That sounds good. We could do dinner since it got interrupted last time." Chloe chuckled.

"I'll have Nick get some beer & some steaks & the guys can cook out."

"Yea, that's probably best. Keep shoving Nick in Joe's face." Chloe laughed out loud & then gasped when Annistyn jumped in her arms, slightly. "Oh baby, girl, Mommy is sorry. I didn't mean to scare ya."

I giggled, quietly. "If it would have been my laugh she probably would have cried."

Chloe rolled her eyes & smiled. "Your laugh is adorable."

"If you say so." I chuckled. Chloe & I sat for about twenty minutes before I put Serenity in her swing, then sighed. "I better not keep Nick waiting much more. Text me what time you want us here tomorrow. See you later, hon." I waved to Chloe, then headed out to the car, where Nick was waiting with his head against the back of the car seat, eyes closed. I didn't know if he was sleeping or just resting his eyes.

I got in the driver's side, since we had taken my car & Nick jumped awake when I slammed the door shut. "Did you have a nice visit?" He asked, buckling his seat belt.

"Yea, Joe stomped off, but Chloe & I had fun bonding with the girls. We're coming for dinner tomorrow night so Damon can meet his sisters. You can grab some beer & steaks to grill, sometime tomorrow, can't you?"

"Dinner tomorrow & Joe is okay with this?" Nick asked, his eyes watching me sideways & his eyebrows raised, that worried expression that I found so endearing. He looked like a worried little boy.

I shrugged, then laughed as I started the car. "We didn't exactly ask him. He's never gonna forgive ya if you don't keep trying." I winked at him, but he didn't look amused.

Nick sighed beside me as he looked out the window, while I drove us home. Jules had been at my place, watching Damon. Jules had made dinner for us, which was nice, so we ate dinner, then after Jules left, I got Damon ready for bed. He kept asking questions about the babies & his dad. I hoped he was this excited when he actually got to meet them. I wasn't holding my breath though, because he was at that age where they didn't understand things & he could get jealous of everything.

I came into the living room & saw Nick watching tv, but then I realized he was zoning. I sat next to him & waved my hand in front of his face. "You okay?"

"Not really." He sighed, breaking my heart as he leaned to place the remote on the couch. He rest his elbows on his knees & bent his head to rest in his hands. "I've never seen Joe this mad. It's been days & he's still just as angry. He works with me so this is going to be really bad if he doesn't forgive me soon." Nick lifted his head & looked at me with so much sadness in his eyes that I wanted to hug him. "My album comes out in two weeks & I have so much press starting tomorrow & then all the shows I have promoting the album. Joe is supposed to come with me to everything so he can take pictures for the website or whatever."
