With a fast beating heart she opened her door and was slammed in the face with the smell of motor oil, pizza, and... Something else. Something probably wolfy in nature. She felt relieved that Paul looked just like he always did. The same Paul she had been giving lessons to and enjoying time with. His hair was slightly unruly, like he had been tugging at it nonstop (like he did when nervous). He wore a plain black v neck t-shirt that showed off the tribal tattoo on his shoulder. She had always liked it and now she wondered if it meant something more. She was honestly surprised he was wearing jeans and sneakers. She had gotten used to the shorts and flip flops he tended to wear when not at his shop. But he was still the same Paul.
"Damn, you smell like leech." He scoffed and pinched his nose.
She raised a brow and went to question him, but she realized he could probably smell the vampires she had been around. At least she hoped he meant vampires and not actual leeches.
"I could put on perfume if it helps?" She rolled her eyes.
"Nah, I gotta get used to it anyway." He groaned and moved out of her way, "Ready to go? Your face isn't done up." He smirked and she saw the joking in those brown eyes.
"What is with you and makeup?" She asked and made her way passed him and down the stairs.
"Smells funny." He wrinkled his nose and gagged slightly.
"You have a good sense of smell, don't you?" She started piecing together new information about him. Now she understood how he always knew what she had eaten for breakfast.
"Yeah. Kinda... Kinda comes with the whole..." He stopped talking for a moment.
"Dog thing?" She questioned and tried not to turn around to face him.
"I am not a dog." He scowled and glared at the back of her head.
"I beg to differ." She snickered to try and ease the tension.
"I would kick you down the stairs if there wasn't a team of leeches on my ass." Paul huffed and made a movement to fake kicking her.
"So I can torment you all I want now?" She laughed.
"Like you didn't do it before." He chuckled.
They left the house in silence and she locked the front door. Though it was probably pointless. No one would make it far enough to break in with vampires and werewolves around. As they walked to his car she decided to speak again.
"So what do vampires smell like anyway?"
"Sweet. But not a good sweet. Sickening sweet." He hissed under his breath and she gasped when he suddenly tripped over the tiniest pebble.
"Are you okay? I have never seen you so clumsy." She helped him stand straight, but he just glared into the woods in front of them.
"Fine. Just cursed with a pain in the ass." He snarled and she swore his eyes flashed yellow before returning to their normal brown, "Stupid voodoo leech."
"What?"
"Nothing. Let's go. Once we are in the car I sure my luck will change." Paul chuckled darkly and she saw them point his middle finger in the direction of his glare.
She followed his eyes and saw a flash of white. A guard member? Was it Elias? What did he have to do with Paul's luck? Paul opened the passenger door for her and she shrieked when he let out a howl of pain after slamming his hand in the door.
"Son of a bitch! Knock that shit off right now!" He faced the woods again and Charlotte swore she heard a man's laughter.
"Paul! Is your hand okay?!" She leaned over the center console as he slid into the driver seat.
