Chapter 36 'Lashes and lipstick'

Chapter 36. Hey guys so as most of my regular readers will know, I always put speech in bold. I have now changed this. After Aaron parks the car, we all just sit there for a minute.

“Jay you’d better go talk to her?” Aaron breaks the silence.

“What do you want to.....?” Turning to me.

I know what he’s asking, it’s such an awkward situation. Is it? We’re not together but I don’t feel like where just friends either.

“No, it’s fine you go. I’ll just...urm..Stay in the car maybe?”.

“You can’t stay in the car. Go inside. It’s nothing to do with her who you are or what you’re doing here".

We all exit the car and walk to the front door, she stands when we reach her. Jay avoids all eye contact with her, wow she really did hurt him.

She’s taller than me, her sandy blonde hair is tied in a ponytail on top of her head and she’s holding her baby bump which is popping out of her yellow coat. She’s pretty, really pretty. She has soft natural features, I can tell even though her face is full of make up.

“Hi, I’m Ali urm...we’re just going to go inside”. I give Jay my most sympathetic smile and hope he knows I’m not mad. I have no reason to be.

“Hi Ali, I’m Jenny. I’m James's....”.

“He’s mentioned you. I’m his...boss". I hope he doesn’t mind me saying that but at this moment in time, I’m not anything else to him.

“He hasn’t mentioned you, sorry". I know she means sorry. There’s no malice or harshness in her voice. It makes me wonder though, do they still talk?

“Why would I mention her to you Jen? We haven't spoke since you broke my heart. Why are you here?". He answers my question. I want to hug him, he looks like he’s on the brink of tears.

“It was nice to meet you Jenny". I say bowing into the house gracefully. I don’t want to be involved with this. It’s nothing to do with me. Aaron follows me and closes the front door behind him.

“Are you okay babe? Don’t worry about that. He’s crazy about you”. He puts one arm round me. I don’t know how I feel. I really like Jay but if he gets back with her then that’s okay. I would be happy for him. Although her being like 5 months pregnant and engaged may cause a problem. Oh my god! Maybe she’s not engaged anymore or doesn’t want to be.

“I’m fine Aaron, really. We’re not a couple or anything. It’s nothing to do with me”.

We hear the front door open and we rush upstairs to Aaron’s room. I might have to sleep in here depending on where the night goes.

I lay down on Aaron's bed, the wine has really got to my head. I pull the blanket over myself. I can feel myself drifting off.


I wake up as the sun is streaming through the blinds. It takes me a minute to realise where I am. I feel a weight next to me. I turn over and Jay is snoring lightly next to me. He is still wearing the suit, he had on last night

What the hell? I’m still in Aaron’s room. What on earth happened last night? I pull myself up as quietly as possible. I have no idea why he came in here. I have no idea what happened last night and I have no idea what I’m supposed to do now.

Shower first I think. I pad quietly towards the bathroom and turn the shower on. I peel off my dress I’m still wearing and step into the shower. The water feels good. I wash away all my make up and wash my hair. I lather the cinnamon smelling body wash over myself, it smells like Jay. I wonder if Jenny’s still here? Where did Aaron sleep? Why did Jay sleep next to me? Did she sleep here? What did they talk about?

Why is my bloody life so full of questions all the time?

Arghhh! Never mind I’ve got the charity event tonight, I just want to try look forward to that. Oh shit! I shouldn’t have bothered washing my hair, hopefully I’m still going to the hairdressers with Aaron and River today.

I shave everywhere now, I wont be able to do again later after I’ve had my hair done. Once I’m done, I grab one of the big turquoise towels off the shelf and wrap it round me. I head back to Jay’s room. I really need to move out, this situation is not ideal. I sneak down the corridor, push open Jay’s bedroom door as quietly as I can. Maybe Jay slept with me because Jenny is in here. I hope not but I know he wouldn’t have sent her out in the cold last night.

I peak my head round the door. Its empty. I go in and close the door behind me. I pull on a pair of Jeans and t shirt from my suitcase on the floor. I pull on some socks and head downstairs.

Aaron is sitting on the settee when I reach the living room.

“Morning beautiful lady". He greets me with a big smile. "You okay?”.

“Yeah I’m good”. I lean over the back of the settee “So? What the fuck happened last night?” We both burst out laughing.

“I have absolutely no idea. What I do know is, Jay came into my room round 5am and asked me if I would take Jenny home. He wanted to speak to you too but you'd already fallen asleep, I guess he fell asleep in there too".

“Did you take her home?”. So she stayed till 5am. Interesting. What did they talk about till 5am? Stop it Ali. None of your business.

“Yeah. As much as I didn’t want too. Cant stand the girl....but I won’t leave her stranded”.

“I would have done the same. Did she say anything when you took her?”.

“No not much”.

“Did she say why she came here?”.

“She came here to get back with him".
