“What the fuck?? Get off me Milo”.
Milo rolls off me. His eyes in sheer horror as he realises I’m naked underneath him.
“Sorry. Sorry. Sorry". He squirms as he pulls himself to his feet. I scramble over and grab a towel to cover myself
.
“What the fuck are you doing?”. I screech at him.
“What do you mean, what am I doing? What are you doing?”.
“You’re in my room!”.
“No, you’re naked in my room".
“What?”.
“This is the room the hotel gave me. That your perfect boyfriend booked for me".
“Fiancé”. I correct him, I perch myself on the end of the big double bed, with a big, white fluffy towel covering as much of me as possible.
“What?”. Milo stands as close to the door as possible, looking down at his feet.
“Jay is my fiancé".
“So?”.
“You said my boyfriend. Well he’s not my boyfriend. He’s my fiancé”.
“Does that matter right now?”. He still won’t look at me.
“I’ll call the front desk and see what happened”. I turn my back on him as I reach for the phone on the side table.
“Hi, I’m room 43. My partner booked two rooms under his name, one for him and I and one for our friend. It seems there is a mix up and my friend has ended up with our room key too. Shall I send him down to get the key to the other room?”.
“Let me just have a look”. She pauses for a minute and I can hear her clicking her nails on the computer. “I’m sorry Mrs Haverford but your Husband only booked one room". I ignore the fact she thinks we’re married.
“Miss Oliver. Only one room? Are you sure?”. Why would Jay only book one room? Why did I correct her? In not so long from now, I will be Mrs Haverford.
“Sorry. Miss Oliver. Yes I'm sure, he specifically asked for the executive double room, I took the booking myself, he definitely only booked one room". What the hell?
“Okay, he told me he booked two, urm never mind. Do you have another room I can book instead?”.
“No I’m sorry Miss Oliver, we are fully booked, we have a sister hotel across the road. I would be more than happy to phone across for you if you’d like?”.
“Yeah that be brilliant”.
“Give me a few minutes and I’ll phone the room back”.
“Thank you". I place the phone back on the receiver and turn back towards Milo, who is still shifting nervously by the door.
“There’s only one room booked, she’s phoning the hotel across the road from me. If they don’t have a room, you stay and I’ll take your car back to town".
“Good, because I don’t know what you two are into but I certainly don’t want to stay in a room with Mr perfect”.
“Why do you keep calling him that?”.
“Because he is, isn’t he? Perfect?”.
“No ones perfect Milo". Why aren't I defending Jay? Is he perfect.
“I am". And he’s gone from nervous to dick in 5 seconds.
“Yeah okay then” I snort.
“What? You don’t think I am, no?”.
“I think....”. I’m cut short by the phone ringing again.“Okay thanks”. I place the phone back down after a brief conversation with the same receptionist. “They have no more room anywhere, I’ll get dressed and head home".
“Ali, it’s fine. If you want to stay, I’ll just go back to the hospital”.
“I don’t mind Milo, I’m so tired, I just need to sleep and I know you do too so give me your keys and I’ll head home". I hold my out stretched hand to him. He looks at it then smiles.
“What?”.
“Your boob has slipped out”. I look down my towel has fallen slightly on one side. Jesus christ. How much does he need to see Ali!
I grab my bag off the floor and head into the bathroom, close the door behind me and sit on the toilet. How do I always end up in these situations? I just need to sleep. My head is pounding and my eyes feel heavy and stuffy. I pinch the skin between my eyes to try and relieve some tension. What the hell was Jay doing only booking one room? Did he think Milo would never use it so he didn’t actually book one for him? And I’ve left my phone in the other room so I can’t even call him.
I look into the black bag on the floor and find everything I need. There is clean clothes for tomorrow but I decide to pull on my pyjamas, I’m only driving home to get into bed. I pull a brush through my wet hair and tie it into a bun on top of my head. I shove my clothes from the floor into the bag and zip it up. I throw it over my shoulder and head back into the bedroom.
Milo has taken his jacket off and hung it on the chair, the grey t shirt he has on is tight to his muscles. Why does he have to he so attractive? It just adds to how annoying he is.
“Oh you decided to stay?” He nods down to my pyjamas.
“No. I’m still going, I just can’t be bothered to get changed again when I get home”.
“Why do you need my car?”.
“To get home”.
“Why can’t Mr...James” He corrects himself just as I’m about to yell at him. “Take you?”.
“He’s not here, he had to go back home".
“And he couldn’t wait for you?”.
“Home to London”.
“Oh okay, why?” Why all the questions?
“Because he had too. Can you just give me your keys please?”.
“No. Why did he leave?”.
“Milo, please. I’m absolutely knackered, I need to go home so I can sleep".
“Not until you tell me why he left”.
“Fine. I’m going to sleep and you can find somewhere else to sleep".
I drop my bag onto the floor, push past him and pull back the covers. I slip into the cool satin sheets and grab my phone from the side table. No messages from Jay yet or anyone else. I try to ignore Milo while he looks round the room, eventually he grabs his own bag off the floor and goes into he bathroom. Hopefully he will leave. I know he needs sleep and he needs to stay close for Loweri but I’m done playing this game with him. I’m so tired.
After I hear the noise of the shower start up, I start to drift off, just as I’m at the point of being fully asleep, I vaguely hear the click of the bathroom door open, but I’m too far gone to care.
My eyes feel heavy and sore as I peer through my lashes into the dark room. It takes me a minute to remember where I am.
